Jacob has not been the best sleeper at night and would only sleep in my arms in bed or on my chest, however 2 nights ago he slept for 3 hrs in pram over night and then last night he slept for 4 hrs and then after feed settled again and slept in pram for 5 hours (which is fantastic) BUT i am stressed as he managed to get blanket over his head and when i picked him up to change him he hardly grizzled and then I put him on boob and fed him and had to take him off to answer door (as i need to support boob and him so cant answer door and feed) and he didnt grizzle at all for being taken off and has not cried since has fed and settled.
AM I being mad is this normal for a 2 week old baby or has he had lack of oxygen?? this is stressing me no end and has made me cry
Feeb - I'm sure all would be ok. Maybe he's just having a quiet day? I think if he was suffering from lack of oxygen his face would be a little blue or lips a funny colour.. isnt' that what happens (enter nurse... )
He is probably just tired and catching up on some sleep after being not so great a sleeper for a week or so. if he is still feeding he is probably fine, no need to stress yourself out.
Its hard to tell as he could simply just be settling into feeding etc as he is so tiny still unfortunately I don't have any medical advice to offer but for your peace of mind don't hesitate to ring a parenting/child help line? Even ABA? Local GP? Or there is a free call to Health Direct Australia: 1800 022 222, simply for your peace of mind. I am sure he is perfectly fine, but like I said, mummies sometimes need that added reassurance. Thinking of you lovey, wish there was more I could do
feeb- This happened to me few days ago... i woke up at 5.30 in the morning to go to the loo and felt like i should check on Tiahna and she had the blanket over her head. I quickly uncovered her and she wasnt moving (obviously she was sleeping) but in my panic i thought the worst so i picker her up to try and wake her... She opened her eyes and didnt cry or anything but was happier seeing her eyes opened. ... I thought well why she's awake i'll feed her. i fed her and she was quiet and had her feed didnt fall asleep just laid there.. It was freaking me out she's never so still... I laid awake next to her for hours until DS woke up at 8 and his noise must have snapped her out of her quiet mood... She finally started moving about and making noises... Its scary i know...
I'm sure everything is ok... Probably took another 10 yrs off your life but didnt bother him at all.. If your too concerned maybe just take him to the GP... Cant hurt. Hope you feel better knowing its happened to someone else... Big please dont cry...
Being a nurse and midwife does not help cope with these things as still scary!!
Je$$_84 ohh i know what u mean he also just lay there and looked at me, i hope he wakes up again soon and screams like he normally does so that i feel better!!!
I'm no expert, but Peter does a similar thing sometimes, and he's fine. He's a bit of a master at getting his covers over his face despite all my best efforts, and it always totally freaks me out. Then sometimes he is a bit floppy and quiet and I worry that he's sick or something, but he always comes back to being fine. I figure he just has times, like we all do, where he feels a bit sleepy and blah.
My GP pretty much said only to get worried if he's not eating, losing weight or is listless for more than a few hours. He did also say that its always better to be a bit on the paranoid side with infants because things can happen so fast to them- so by all means get Jacob checked out, but things are probably fine.
aww hon
hey is probably just as buggered as you and happy sleeping. You know the signs to look for if something was wrong. Maybe he is finally getting this sleeping idea and happy to be settled. If there was a problem he wouldnt have fed.
trust your instincts and your gut.
hang in there hon and let us know how he is when he wakes up
