    Low HCG

We've just gone through our second OI cycle TTC#2. I used a HPT last Thursday (12dpo) and got a very faint line but didnt want to get my hopes up because I thought the Pregnyl may still have been in my system.

I had a BT this morning (16dpo) and got a call from the nurse saying that although it was a BFP that my HCG was only 97 so they want me to go back in on Wednesday for another BT. MY HCG at the same time with my daughter was around 350 so its a significant difference.

Has anyone had a viable pregnancy after a low HCG level or do do you think I'm possibly looking at an early m/c at some stage in the near future????

teepee - BW had a low HCG on her first pregnancy with the caterpillar, and went on for a higher reading in a BT a few days later. unfortunately she lost caterpillar at 8 or 9 weeks, but i am pretty sure that was unrelated to that early reading!

    sounds like good news hun

    fingers crossed for wednesday

Thanks girls I'm trying to keep positive.

The everso beautiful Celsie gave me a chart which shows that at this stage my HCG can be anywhere between 5 - 426. So I'll just wait and hope there is an increase by Wednesday.

    Thanks again xx

BG is right about Caterpillar. The reason we lost that baby was because we stopped some meds I was on that were treating a problem that we hadn't yet known about the severity of it... Hindsight is a beautiful thing...

At that point in time at 14DPO my levels were around 85... And Sushee gave me hope in that her levels at the same point with Charlie were 75, and that's a much more positive outcome to hold on to.

I know it's hard not to stress about the numbers, but the important thing is more how they change (ie how quick they double), not so much where they start. I've heard of many pregnancies starting out low and going on to successful pregnancies, just as I've heard of pregnancies that start out with high HCG levels and ending in miscarriage rather early. It's not the only factor at play here.

Try to wait patiently for that next blood test - you can't say anything for sure until that point.

    Hi teepee2,

We did a stim cycle in January, and 14 days after the transfer my HCG was 45. They said they liked to see at least 100 to "call it" (I remember thinking "how can i be half pregnant??"), and wanted to do a repeat test to see if they were doubling properly. At 18 days post transfer my levels were 150, so still not high enough - repeat test at 24 days showed 900. All this time they were talking about D&C and our next cycle, which was hugely scary. They still weren't happy with how the levels were going up and did ANOTHER repeate test at 31 days which was 4500. A week later we saw a heart beat on the 7 week scan and that put the matter to rest!! Right now I'm 30 weeks - everything has been very smooth.

During that time I was basically looking for ANY positive story I could find, and even read about ladies who at 2 months preg could POAS and get a negative result because their HCG was low, and went on to have healthy babies.

In any case, even if the next test doesn't come back as high as "they" expect things could still be ok

Thanks to all of your for your kind words & encouragement!

Tish you're right - I too am looking for positive stories to put my mind at ease, and like BW said I'm sure there is so much more involved than just hcg levels. Thanks so much for sharing your story with me.

And yes Willow - time certainly does fly doesnt it. It seems like only yesterday that we were going through all those problems TTC Mikayla and look at her now! Thats another reason to have hope - I was blessed with 1 gorgeous little miracle so I now know that anything is possible!!

Every kind word from each of you has given me more hope. Thank you xx

Teepee there was a young IVFer a couple of years ago who had a HCG reading in the 20s at her 14dpo BT. Her Dr said it was not a viable pg. She, however, continued to confound them by having her HCG increase a little with each BT. They kept telling her it was not viable, it might be an ectopic etc until she had her first scan. She later went on to have a healthy, happy son.

With OI, it's so hard to pinpoint exactly when fertilisation took place, or even when implantation might have happened. The best indication will be your next BT. Good luck.

BTW it's true that my HCG was 75 at my BT, as BW said. That was when I was pg to Charlie. At that time, there were a few of us LTers who had low HCGs. We all went on to be belly buddies and baby buddies together.
