    Burping sleeping baby

Recently, DS seems to have a lot more gas than usual. He feeds to sleep at night, but then wakes up 1-2 hours later screaming cause he needs to burb. I try to burb him right after his feed, but he's conked out already and nothing happens. Anyone have advice? Would be nice to go back to solid stretches of sleep...
    TIA

I've always held mine up over my shoulder & rubbed their back firmly from the bottom up when they were asleep.

I still try to burp Brock if he's asleep. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Brauers colic relief is great if bubs wakes up later on. I find that he burps a few minutes after taking it even if I'm not trying to burp him at the time.

my new born always looks like he has wind and in hospital i asked is there some other technique than what i already know. Patting rubbing and all that she said no but all that is really just for your self not for bubs as he will burp when ready. I was abit let down but i have heard when all else fails try gripe water google it

I too just held mine upright over my shoulder while they slept. On most occasions, they'd do a sleepy burble burp

Guess I'll just try holding him over my shoulder for a bit longer and see if it works. Just odd cause he's been doing this consistently every night for the last week or so, but never had issues before. He goes right back to sleep after i pick him up and burp him later on, so not that big a deal
    thanks guys

Just on the gripe water, I rang a pharmacy hotline when ds was 4 weeks old and they told me that gripe water is no longer recommended as it contains ethanol (sp?) which can be harmful. Ethanol is kinda like alcohol i think!
Infants friend is a far better choice and is gentle on bubs too.
    Hope this helps

I've been using Infacol for DS and it seems to work a treat.

Yeah, I've used Infacol for all 3 of mine. Only once or twice with DS though. Keep forgetting its there.

You can get a gripe water that contains no ethanol from the chemist, cant rememebr the name atm, but just check the lables.
I found that infacol and gripe water worked a bit, but if i gave MJ 2 mls of cool boiled water before a feed it was enough to push and air down...

Also i would burp her before a feed and this is going to sound weird, but if you move your bubs around and hear the fluid 'lapping' in their tummy (afer a feed) there is air that needs to come up, if you cant hear it, they should be OK...
I sometimes will hold MJ over my shoulder then bring her down flat and then back up again, it helps to move the liquid and air around and its easier to burp up

    Hope this helps
