British Study - clomid and IUI no better for you than falling pregnant naturally
Hi Ladies,
haven't been on for a while. Got my head in a good place recently, a far cry from a couple of months ago where I was constantly obsessing. My story is I've been TTC since Jan 07. I've been on Clomid for 6months, had 2 pretty bad months with big side effects. Decided to go natural for a couple of cycles, the first sadly did not see our dreams come true.
After various tests, I was advised, there was nothing wrong with me and I ovulate naturally, but with varying length cycles. DH has had a variety of analysis results, but it's improved each time.
Last week this article was brought to my attention and I found it hugely interesting. I'll attatch the link but the gist is that a study was done on 580 couples in Britain, and the 2 main conclusions were;
1. clomid should only be prescribed for people who don't ovulate naturally - but it's prescribed due to it's relative cheapness, and the fact that couples don't like to 'do nothing', and;
2. IUI is no more successful than trying naturally.
How frustrating now I've 'experienced' Clomid, endured the side effects, the personality transplant etc but with no success............and I ovulate naturally. We're also faced with the question 'what next?' as we'd been told IUI was the next option.
Girls, I'm confused, upset, frustrated and quite frankly tired.
Anyway here's the link. There's a written article, a short video from BBC1 TV and audio, where the study gets the approval of Dr. Robert Winston (a leading professor in fertility - helped pioneer IVF and has been on a few tv shows to do with the human body) BBC NEWS | Health | Fertility treatments 'no benefit'
