Unhappy Braxton hicks at 19.5 wks

Has anyone else been getting braxton hicks contractions this early in pregnancy? I'm really worried as i started getting them at 25 wks with my DS and i went into premature labour with him at 28 wks. They are not overly painful more like mild cramps but i have been getting them every day for the past week. I havent had any other signs of prem labour but wasnt sure if this was normal for a second pregnancy. I have an appointment with the obstetrician next week but not sure if i should see him earlier just in case.

I'm 15 weeks pregnant with #3 and i'm already getting them. I got them around 20 weeks with #2. So for me that sounds normal but since you have a history of prem labour i would be asking your OB just to check on you for peace of mind if nothing else.

    HI,

I think I may have had some BH on the weekend- I had to sit down to help work through the pain but I had been carrying some boxes of books earlier, so who knows?

Funny, I don't want to take any drugs in labour so god knows how I'll cope

I'm seeing my OB on Thursday, I'll check with her.

I've gotten them earlier with each PG, they have also ben stronger. It's normal apparently but I can understand your apprehension

By all means talk about it with your OB and if you can't wait till then, ring him.

this is my 2nd pregnancy and I have started getting BH in the last week or so. Not painful or uncomfortable but very noticable especially when I am lying in bed at night. My DD wasn't prem though so it might be worth discussing with your ob or midwife. It probably isn't urgent though.

Thanks heaps for your replies, its good to know that it is quite normal to get BH earlier with each pregnancy. Spoke to the midwife and she said to just take things easy just in case. Put my mind at ease a bit even though they are so strong, cant remember them being like this with my DS

I had none (that I knew of!) with DS
Had some in late preg with DD
This time around been having them since around 17 wks

Renstar - your whole tummy goes super tight for a while and can be uncomfortable to move - but shouldn't be painful until later in preg which is leading into prelabour etc.

Oh my god, I think I may have had this happen to me.

SamiH - on two occasions now over the last few days my tummy has gone really tight, it happened last night. It was just after dinner and I thought I must have just eaten too much.

It wasn't painful, it just felt really tight for a couple of minutes.

Soooo... definitely nothing to worry about then? This is my first baby, is it bad to be getting them so early?

Might call midwife tomorrow just to check.

Renstay, So glad you asked that question. I have heard of this but no idea what it is let alone what it feels like. I am a bit worried myself now. I get this heavy feeling that bump is lying on the bottom of my tummy just above the pubic area and that feels a bit uncomfy but thought that was just where bump was lying. It happened while I was in with Ob last week. He felt the baby and I asked him where the baby was lying and I just thought that when the baby is lying in that position it is going to feel like this. Don't think I have had BH yet, but like you said, I have had a big dinner and felt tight and hard for a little while but I just sit on the lounge and after a while it feel ok again, in fact i forget about it most of the time.
Other than that, I feel great, I even think I may be begining to waddle when I walk cause bump is starting to feel a bit heavy in certain positions.

well I can only explain how they feel for me. I started getting them at about 15 weeks this time round and usually when I lie in bed at night.

For me it feels like my uterus gets tight and hard (it is painless though) and it starts right below my bellybutton and slowly flows downward toward my pubic bone then relaxes.

I'm sure it probably feels different to others though.
