I wanted to share my story with this forum to hopefully give other women who have experienced the same symptoms as me that this has happened to someone else.
I went for my 12 week NT scan on 31/7 which releaved the devasting news that my baby had not heartbeat and was 9 week size. I had had a missed miscarriage
I booked in for a D&C the next day, and the following 5-6 days were difficult emotionally but physically I felt quite good with "normal" bleeding eventually stopping by day 6 following the D&C.
Then it started - the night of day 6 blot clot after blood clot started appearring - and I would have to say that this was the heaviest bleeding I have EVER experienced (even heavier following the birth of my son). I went to my GP the next day, who was concerned that I might have an infection so prescribed me with antibiotics. He told ne that the bleeding should slow down over the weekend and if it hadn't, that we may need to see via an U/S if there were any retained products.
I finally got in touch with ny obstetrician who told me that this was my period and not to be concerned - it was just nature's way of healing following the D&C and miscarriage. And my body did continue to get "back on track" with the bleeding eventually stopping after a week.
BUT WOULD YOU BELIEVE I had another gushing of blood 2 weeks after the D&C! It happened in a public place and I was sent to hospital in an ambulance. Following an internal U/S they found that there was still a small blot clot attached to my uterus causing this bleeding.
i have visited my obstetrician this week and now am hopefully recovered from the D&C.
Apparently this is quite normal and if anyone has had a D&C following a missed miscarriage, and has REALLY heavy bleeding - please dont freak out - you aren't the only person that this has happened to. it is probably your first period and your body is going back to normal - but still get it checked out by your GP or obstetrician.
It has now been almost 3 weeks since the D&C and I feel better (although sad that I have lost a little angel).
