any suggestions anyone??
My DS has this redness in the leg creases & particularly in the sac area, it also has this cheesy smell & white stuff there as well, I was wondering if it sounds like nappy rash or thrush (& if so how should I treat it) or if I should go to the GP & if so will tomorrow be too late??
thanks for reading & any advice
any suggestions anyone??
I used to have a whole stack of J&J brochures with pictures of different kinds of nappy rash and I've thrown them all out grrrr! I was thinking it sounded fungal.
This is from my Miriam Stoppard book - hope this helps:
APPEARANCE OF RASH
Spotty rash that starts around the anus and spreads to the buttocks and inner thighs. You may also notice white patches inside your baby's mouth.
CAUSE AND TREATMENT
Thrush, caused by a yeast infection. Consult your doctor. She will probably give you anti-fungal treatments.
Does that sound like it? I would make an appointment with the GP but in the meantime, leave the nappy off as much as possible, clean the area with water, not baby wipes, and dry the area meticulously (no powder). You can go to the chemist to get a nappy rash treatment cream that is especially good for fungal nappy rash...I think it might be Desitin but not completely sure, would say so on the tube at any rate.

Hi,
Sounds more like nappy rash, with thrush it becomes more pimple like and can look quite raw. If your concerned you can try canesten cream which is an antifungal, even if it is not thrush it won't hurt to use it.

Dianne
Isn't nappy rash actually thrush?
The best thing I found to help my kids, and very quickly, is thick lashings of sudocrem. Worked a charm overnight.

You could always try some diluted canesten, my sis uses that on her bub and it works well.
Good luck!
It could be thrush (possibly early signs of it- later on it may go pimply). I didn't realise the difference between nappy rash and thrush until a CYH nurse pointed it out to me- the normal nappy rash cream (sudocreme) wasn't doing anything to remove it. You can treat it with cream over the counter from the chemist- the one I've used is Daktozin. Worked a treat after one or two applications. And it won't hurt if it's not thrush to put it on anyway.
cheers ladies, I think some thrush treatment isn't going to hurt & I will see how I go, if that doesn't work then I found that lanolin (woolfat) works well on his nappy rash last time so I might give that a go as well.
