Well i've just got back from the hospital - so please forgive me for freaking out a tad... but I would really love to hear from someone who's had a similar situation.
Basically when i was 18 i was diagnosed with Nephritis (a kidney disease that means my body releases too much protein in my wee) and i've been told by doctor that this could lead to complications with our pregnancy. Already they're a tad concerned that my BP is high. And she mentioned that my disease increases my risk of Gestational Diabetes & preeclampsia, so now i have to see a specialist to have lots of tests etc.
Has anyone had or know of someone who's had Nephritis and got pg, and what happened? I got to see the little one for the first time today also and hear hb. Was moving around heaps
Am so in love with it already i just want to do everything right and make sure it has the best start.
I don't know if any of this will actually be of any help or not? My mum had nephritis. I don't think it was diagnosed before her pregnancies with me and my brother though.
I know that when she was pregnant with me, she did end up with high b/p, and ended up on complete bed rest for the last month or so of her pregnancy. She went on to deliver me naturally, and in 4 hours too!(lucky woman) A few months after I was born, she went into hospital to have some tests done on her kidneys. (possibly biopsy? ) I think it was probably the Dr's being cautious at the time?
Her Dr said she should not have any more children though. She ended up fighting them, and had my brother, again naturally, this time in 2 hours! She spent the last couple of months on bed rest again. Another visit to the hospital for tests when he was about a month old i think?
When I was about 12 or 13, she ended up with kidney failure. There is a family history of nephritis, so it was probably more due to this than her pregnancies.
In being monitored, ie.. your B/P, protein etc, then you'll be in the best position to keep a close eye on all your levels and feel secure in the knowledge that your little one (and you) will be fine.
Hang in there chickie. i've got a history of kidney dramas that wasn't doagnosed until after I fell with Darcy.
I did get pre-ecclampsia, but no sign of GD.
It gave me grief throughout the preg and this time is proving no different.
Make sure you're drinking your water and being monitored and you should be fine.
I have kidney issues too. Not the same as yours but when i was 16 i had renal artery stenosis (narrowing of the artery into the kidney and blood vessels in the kidney) because of lack of blood supply to the bottom of my kidney, i had to have the bottom half removed. My BP has never returned to normal, its always been just that bit too high.
Anyway i just wanted to let you know that knowing your history, they should monitor you carefully throughout your pregnancy, with your BP and watching for protein. I have just given birth to my 6th healthy baby. My babies were just a bit on the small side because of the BP meds, but my OB monitored that like a hawk too.
I got PE with #1 but not the others. Towards the end of all of my pregnancies my BP started mucking about and going up a bit.
I hope you can have a good pregnancy and that things stay relatively stable for you throughout.
