    Anymore scans???

    Hiya,

I had my last scan at 24 weeks and i am just wondering if there will be any more scans during the rest of my pregnancy? My next appointment is at 28 weeks and i've been told they won't do a scan that day.

I so want to see little bubba again

Have any of you girls had an ultrasound in the last trimester?

Usually you only get two scans, the nuchal fold one at 12 weeks, if you want it, that is, some people (like me) don't choose to have it at all, and the one at 18-20 weeks. After that you only get more if there is something wrong and your Ob wants to check that things are going OK or if you choose to pay for one out of your own pocket. In a way it seems a shame that you don't get to see your baby again until s/he is born but it's also a good thing as no one really knows how harmful it would be to subject the baby to a lot of ultrasound waves.

I only had two, dating at 10 weeks and the big one at 20 weeks.

As the other girls have said, it is usually just the two scans. Sometimes there is a need for a further scan if the Doctor is concerned about growth of bubs.

In my situation with carrying twins, I have already had a scan at 7 weeks to check for viability, another scan at 13 weeks for the nuchal testing. I will be having another scan at 20 weeks, then 28 weeks and finally at 34 weeks.

The last 2 scans are to check for growth of the babies

I had a growth scan at 28 and then at 34 weeks to check on bubs as he was measuring small! I'm not sure if you can request another scan but it wouldn't hurt to ask, they might say yes!

u can have a growth scan but its unlikey unless something is wrong or they are unsure on the position of bub.

I had my last one at 24 weeks - it was supposed to be the last one at 20 weeks however the ultrasound lady couldn't get a clear shot of the heart or the profile, so i had to back again. Becoz that stressed us out a fair bit, we got the 4D for free which was amazing. But I won't have any more scans from now on...just gotta wait for little bub to make his/her entrance and then I can check him/her out for real

    good luck!!

I have to have one more at 32 weeks to check the position of my placenta as mine is low. But if I didn't have a low placenta I wouldn't be having any more.

I had one at 7 weeks (dating scan) 12 weeks (nuchal test) 18 week (morph) and then one at 34 weeks because they thought bub was breech - it was about 1 min though and I didn't really see much, and if I'm still hanging in there next Friday I will have one for post-dates to check the fluid levels/placenta etc... I don't think they routinely do them after the morph scan unless there is some kind of concern about position/growth etc....

I had a scan at 32 weeks to check on growth but that was because I had an abnormal 12 week scan and apparently it's standard practice to do a growth scan after an abnormal one.

At the 32 week scan they measured the blood flow through the cord and found that it was at the high end of normal. Because of this I had to go back at 34 weeks to have it checked on. At the 34 week scan the blood flow appeared to be normal.

I wish I hadn't had to have them done as they brought extra stress with them. In my experience earlier scans give you far better pics than the later ones do (I'd had 6 by 24 weeks) so you aren't missing out on anything.

Thanks for all your replies girls.

I've had a few scans already - dating scan at 7wks, then another scan at 12wks, 20wks morphology scan and finally the 24wk scan. I got a couple of extra ones because i entered into a research program the hospital is doing.

So i think that's it for me after those 4 scans

I might have to book myself in for the 4D scan so i & hubby get to see cute little bubba again
