xrays at the airport - should I avoid them?

    Hi guys

I have to fly a few times between now and my EDD, and I am wondering if it is safe to go through the airport security check without telling them I am pregnant. Do they use xrays?

    Thanks!

Ummm, I thought unless you jump onto the conveyor belt with the hand luggage you wont be near any xrays...

You will walk through a metal detector but no xrays.....

I walk through a metal detector unit every day to get into work and everything is all good so far with my pregnancy.

I steer clear of the converyor belt though because that's where the danger is, like Lulu and Falguni said. Get your DH or travelling companion, if you have one, to be the one to put the bags on and off the belt, especially if the rubber flaps are being pushed aside by other items. Have a good trip!

Even with the travel on luggage unit thingy that does you xray, I seriously doubt you would be in any danger. x-rays scatter & would say that given people are working with those machines everyday there would be safety messures put in place. Once you about a metre away from where the xray is being produced your fine.
The amount of led etc around the unit to collect the scatter from the xrays would take care of an real danger Im sure.
