    Clexane and pregnancy / labour

    Hi all,

i'm looking for a bit of advise / help please...

I am currently 37 weeks pregnant with my 1st baby. in Dec 07 i had a DVT and then fell pregnant in Feb 08, so therefore have to inject myself with 120 mg of clexane daily.. i went to see the anaesthist (excuse the spelling) today and she has told me, because of the high dose of clexane i am on, i will not be able to have an epidural or spinal block for 24 hrs after takin my last injection.... from the point of view of pain relief, im not too bothered, but if i have to have an emergency c section, i will have to knocked out completely under a general anaesthetic... which i'm really gutted about and i do not want that.

they said its too risky for me to stop the medication a week or two before my due date, and she said the only way to really work round it, is to plan an induction which has to be decided about by my consultant, which i am going to see tomorrow, but now i'm really panicing that he might decide against it....

has anyone else had the same sort of thing?? if so, what was the out come??

thanks in advance for any replies i get to this thread...

    Hi Danielle,

I am 40mg Clexane once a day but I am only 12 weeks.

You could try the Factor V Leiden pregnancy forum where most of the ladies are on Clexane for their genetic blood clotting issues (having Factor V Leiden increases your chance of DVT's etc). Many of the women are from the USA and they call it Lovenox over there but its exactly the same as Clexane.

FVL-PG : Factor V Leiden and Pregnancy Issues

You should get some good feedback or could search the forums. Maybe search under Lovenox instead of Clexane.

    Good Luck!

    Hi Danielle,

I had a DVT in 2000 and am on 40mg Clexane shots (daily). I will be induced at 38 weks, and stop the clexane 36 hours before induction. My OB said that as long as there is 12 ours clearance from the last clexane shot an epidural should be OK. He said he'd restart the clexane the night of the birth and that I'd remain on clexane for 6 weeks post-natally as this is a high-risk time for clotting.

    good luck with your pregnancy
