When did you feel your baby move?

    Hello ladies,

I am now 18 weeks pregnant and starting to worry, WHY CAN I NOT FEEL MY BABY KICK? I have strange cramping and shooting pains occasionally.. is this what it feels like? It is too early to feel him/her?

I am sure everything is fine but just wondered what to expect and when.

Hope you are all doing great
    Pregy E

I am also 18 weeks preggers today, and I have been feeling the exact same sensations, the strange cramps and shooting pain!!!! With my first pregnancy i didn't feel anything substantial till I was nearly 25 weeks I think it just depends on how your baby is feeling, whether they are active or just like to lay about lol I have been feeling little punchy movements though I don't know how else to describe it in words but I am pretty sure it's the baby

I had flutters at 12 weeks and 16 weeks. Both times it was only once - after the NT scan & then the day after I had my amnio done.

Proper movements I felt at 20 weeks and they were few and far between for quite a while.

1st pregnancy not til around 20 weeks or so
This pregnancy was much earlier out 13 weeks.
I kept getting worried too first time round, esp when I got ppl asking constantly are you feeling it move yet. Generally first pregnancies takes longer time to feel movement I'm sure you will over next few weeks some time.

the first time i felt it first pregnancy was during 19 week ultrasound we saw it on the screen at the same time so i knew for sure thats what it was. but still it didnt happen again for a while. i had an anterior placenta then which can muffle the movements or something like that.

this time i think i felt the baby from pretty early on but got a definate, definate movement last week. now it is very sporadic and not even every day. i know how you feel, but dont worry it will happen sooner or later and then it will be keeping you up at night! :-)

I was about 16 or 17 weeks I think with the first one. But it's really not uncommon to not feel it until 18/19/20 weeks or even later - particularly if you are a larger lady or have an anterior placenta (this is where the placenta is attached to the front wall of the uterus - it tends to reduce the amount of movement you can feel particularly early on when the baby is still quite small).

Don't worry you'll be complaining about getting kicked in the bladder in no time

Don't worry. This is my first pregnancy, and I didn't feel any movement until I was 20 weeks. It's a strange sensation, and different women describe the feeling of movement differently. For me, it wasn't like butterflies or bubbles popping - it felt more like odd muscle twitches. It might take you awhile to realise that what you're feeling is your baby moving, but the more you feel that same feeling the more confident you'll become that it is bubs moving. I know it's really hard waiting for those first movements, but don't worry - they will happen .

    Hi Pregy E

Another first time mummy here. I didn't feel my bub move until about 20-21 weeks.

The sharp pains/cramps you describe could be your uterus expanding? I have had those on and off during my pg as well.

It might take a little while to realise that bubs is kicking, but when you do it will be the best!!

    Good luck

    Hi there,

I'm coming up to 22 weeks with my first pregnancy - I'd have to say that I have felt flutters and weird movements since about 16 weeks... nothing I could definitively say "That is my baby moving".

Even now, at 22 weeks, due to my lovely anterior placenta I have only just started feeling little kicks. I reckon I have only been able to say twice with certainty "The baby just kicked me." Everyone tells me to stop asking for it because soon I'll be feeling it all the time etc etc... but that's not stopping me from being impatient to be feeling it

    hi Girls

Don't worry - one of my friends with her first, was 22 weeks. I first felt mine at 16 weeks but it wasn't every day only when I was lying on my back being very still at night.

The good news with feeling it late, your partner might feel it soon after you...my friends partner felt their baby move one week after she first felt it move, but my partner didn't until about 8 weeks later....at week 24

The day after my 19week scan I knew that I had definitely felt my baby move.

It was a definite kick (not hard) but it felt like a pop went off against the inside of my lower belly. I cried when I felt it because like you I just had no idea what I was supposed to be feeling but I just knew as soon as it happened what it was. IT has since happened everyday and is getting quite strong now. My DP felt the baby kick for the first time yesterday (I am 22 and a half weeks).

This is my first baby as well. Good Luck with your pregnancy hun and I cant wait to see a post from you saying that you felt your baby kick.

Oh and I have a low posterior (at the back) placenta. If your placenta is at the front it might take a little longer to feel.
