    Fainting

    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced fainting with their children. Got a call from school saying that DD 7 had fallen over and grazed both her knees quite badly, gone into shock, very pale, eyes rolled in the back of her head and then fainted. She experienced this at the begining of last year at school, whenever she fell over she would faint. I had taken her to the doctor who did blood tests and her iron level was low so put her on iron tablets and it didn't happen since. Just wondering if it would be from pain or from the sight of blood or might have to get her iron checked again. If anyone has any opinions I would love to hear them.

    Regards,
    Dianne

I was/am a fainter - as a kid I fainted when I broke my arm, when I fell on my tailbone (twice), sprained my arm and then a few times when I gave blood. Every time doctors were more concerned with the thing that caused the fainting than the fainting itself - once when I mentioned it, the doctor said some people are just prone to it. With me, I think I just go into shock quite easily - however I managed an almost drug free birth without even feeling faint. The only thing I'd suggest is get her blood pressure checked - last time I fainted mine was low for a while afterwards.

Hopefully someone can come in with more help. It is scary for the people around the fainter, but doctors reassured Mum (& now DH) that its not to be worried about.

So she faints after she hurts herself? Just checking that I got that right. If she was fainting and then hurting herself it could be an iron deficiency, low blood sugar, low blood pressure.

But if she is fainting after she hurts herself then it is psychological. Possibly the sight of blood? As a kid I used to faint at the sight of a needle but I am over it now (still can't look but at least don't faint at the thought) Maybe have a chat to her and ask her any she thinks she is fainting. Or ask the teachers is they saw anything happen before it happened.

Sorry I can't be more help.
