    Question My parents & sister & YA/Newstart...BG?

I don't really know, but this seems a bit wrong.
My sister is 18. She lives at home & recieves $116 a fortnight.
My mum & dad are both on Newstart. Mum gets about $300 & dad gets around $400 with RAS.
So thats around $800 a fortnight my mum dad & sister are expected to live off. They pay $400 a f/n rent so are only left with around $200 a week to pay the rest of the bills & live.
Centrelink won't let my sister move out of home, even though she's trying to move to an area where there are more employment opportunities.
My mum & sister only started getting payments recently. Mum has been doing all the courses etc she has to to get her payments.

Is this really all they are entitled to? They do own a house, but that is their only major asset. Its not worth that much considering house prices these days.

My mum gets no FTB at all for having my sister at home. They are low income.
Can any one shed some light??

I know everyones specific circumstances are different, but I just wanted to check that its right in general. It doesn't seem fair to me.

firstly - you can't get both FTB and YA - so given your sister gets YAL, your parents won't get FTB for her

if they own a house and are renting another property, the house they own is classified as an assett and might put them over income limits for max payment

the YAL is based on the family actual means which includes all incoming and outgoing income. max rate is about 190 a fortnight - given the property they own, it would reduce her entitlement

no YAL student or job seeker will receive independent rate of YAL unless specific criteria are met and your sis isn't meeting them (it's basically working 18 months afer finishing highschool and earning 17k i think from memory, or unreasonable to live at home - which it obviously isn't given she still lives there)

    Ok.
Mum did say it had something to do with her spending last year or something.
The house they own is worth about $160k. But they are living away from it.
& I do remember now that they had to cut one payment to get the YA (FTB I gather), but does that mean mum gets no PP at all as well? Or does that automatically stop when she's 16?

Sorry, I'm just a bit lost.

My sister would like to get out for work as she is about 20 minutes away from town with no transport & her & dad are at each others throats. But yeah, its not considered bad enough.
There is no TAFE or anything out there either, so it makes everything a little bit harder.

your parents will be ineligible for any payments related to your sister now that she is on YAL

and 160k house will definitely impact on their entitlements
