Pinky's toilet training book

I saw pinky mckay's toilet training book a while ago and was thinking of buying it as i don't really know how to have a consistent strategy of toilet training because people keep telling me different things. Is this book sort of like a guide? I really need to start because DS has been ready for ages, tells me when he has done a poo and sometimes wees, wakes up dry etc, lots of familiarity with potty. I just need to get on to it but don't really know how.

I haven't seen the book hun, but my guess is that it would be very good. TT can be very frustrating, but not always. If your DS is ready, hopefully it will go well for you. Depending on where he is with readiness now, there are too main strategies. One is to sit him on the toilet regularly, especially after meals and key "poo" times. The other is to ask him if he needs to use the toilet and take him when he says "yes" (or better still, asks to go himself). Most people start with sitting the child on the toilet regularly and are then guided by the child.

So is it better to just skip the potty stage and introduce the toilet instead?

Also possibly a stupid question, but how come you don't stand little boys in front of the toilet like men?

Most people do use a potty first. I didn't because J wouldn't use the potty. He wanted to do things the same as us, so he insisted on using the toilet. And T's the same - he has been wanting to sit on the toilet for ages now. He doesn't do anything most of the time, but he is copying his brother. There is no problem with introducing the potty first, but I have found it helpful to not have to then transition from potty to toilet.

Both my boys have started sitting on the toilet when being too small to stand up and wee. We do have a step, but even so it's awkward for them, so we have started with sitting. I think most people start teaching them to sit for wees as it's easier and makes a lot less mess than a child who is too short or balancing on a stool trying to aim as well (what an image hey LOL). We have a weeman, which is a thing that clips onto the side of the toilet for them to wee into and J will sometimes use it when he insists of "weeing like Dad", but mostly he is happy to sit.
