Need a bit of help right away please!

I have been having pretty bad heartburn and reflux over the last couple of weeks. But tonight its horrible. I can't keep anything down and it burns like anything.

I dunno i can take to make it stop hurting and to keep it down? I obviously can't go out to the shops at this time of the night, but not sure what to take.

    Glass of milk?
    Fruit tingles?
    Piece of bread and butter?

Owww, can you send DH down to a late night chemist to get some Andrews Tums? They worked a treat for me. If not how about a big glass of milk to see if that eases some of the acidity. Or if you have some mylanta in the cupboard a little of that probably wouldn't hurt.

    Have you tried milk?
It worked for me most of the time. Some times it didn't though.
Hope it lets you sleep til you can get to the shops.

Tums are safe in pregnancy, if you have them.

DOnt have any carbs, water will make it worse as well and milk sometimes can have the opposite effect.

Go to bed and prop yourself up with about 5 pillows behind your head and upper back. Put the tv on if you have one and try and take your mind of it. THis has worked for me int he past. I am really feeling for you as it is awful. Hope it goes away soon.

I have some mylantas on my bedside table. Wish I could take you one now!

I just asked Dr Google and a couple of people has ideas of chewing gum or eating celery if you have either Might be worth a shot.

Edit- HEAPS of people have suggested Vinegar or Apple Cidar Vinegar.

oh hun My DP didnt even know what heartburn was and had no sympathy for me. I tried to tell him that it is like someone is sticking fire down your throat. Its awful.

I read that drinking milk only makes it worse as it curdles.

Another suggestion is to have a couple of teaspoons of baking powder in a glass of water to neutralize the acid in your stomach. Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate which is the main ingredient in antacids.

I found sandwiches were the cause of my heartburn! I can't remember if milk helped or not. Try not to eat or drink too much, as just the sheer volume in your stomach won't help.

Send your DH out to a supermarket (they're open late.. like coles or woolies) and grab some rennies or something. They worked well for me.

Might have to invest in Tums and other suggestions because i dont have anything here right now lol.

ETA: Can't send DH out because he doesn't drive! I'm the one that does all the driving.

bah. does he have a bike? LOL.

Is this why you're having a homebirth? coz he cant drive you to a hospital? LOL - kidding!

Just keep yourself upright, and try not to eat too much. Do you have a recliner or something to sleep in for a while?

Oshani - re the vinegar - I would have thought that's acidic? I think you need something alkaline to reduce the acidity in the stomach.. which is why milk is usually good.

Do you have Eno or Salvital in you 1st aid cupboard? If not then I agree with the Bicarb suggestion. try flavouring it with a bit of non acidic juice. Good luck hun
