being a first time mum, i was so unsure about so many things. do i need this or that for my unborn child. so we went shopping and bought up big. you know, the cot, the set of drawers to match with the change mat on the top, the sling...and every accessory in the world. i think the only thing i didn't buy was a portacot but was told to get one! i wasted most of my muslin wraps too!!
my DD was born and she never went in her cot and disliked her sling. i also bought a bath seat that she disliked and she hated her jolly jumper. what a waste of money, i have ended up selling them on ebay for less than a 1/4 of the price i bought them for!
i do however feel good i picked up a cheap bassinette for $50 from a friend because my DD did go in that for a few weeks. then she was a co-sleeper and now we've gone straight onto the toddler bed at 10 months and she seems to love that.
has anyone else experienced these sorts of things, bought things you never used or they are still in the box unopened and your child is now a toddler?
if only i knew what i do now!!!!

We have way to many toys.. Its all well and good to buy them for our first but when you get to your 4th you have nothing to buy them for birthdays or Xmas lol..
I also bought a safe and cosy sleeper for DD and she only used it about 4 times.. They are great but not for me...
LOL, i was the COMPLETE opposite, my list of baby things that i had before she was born were:
Cot
Mattress Sheets (x4) Muslin cloths (x12)
Flat nappies (x12)
plastic pants (x3) mcn bambino mio prefolds (x24) mcn bambino mio wraps (x3 newborn size, x5 small size) roll of nappy liners nappy pail soft face cloths for wiping at nappy time (x10) wrap-across vests (x5)
pull-over-head vests (x7) onesies (x14) shawls (x3)
cardigans (x3) socks (5pairs)
breast pump
steriliser for pump tummy tub baby bath Kari-me baby sling (like a HAB)
Only the ones in bold were things we bought ourselves. The rest were gifts. That was it!!! No stroller, no bouncer, no rocker, no bottles, no bassinet, no portacot, no baby gates, no playpen, no clothes (though people brough a ton when she was born, and i spent many an hour after the birth knitting her little things too), no dummies, no disposable nappies or wipes, nothing! I have found that if you really need something you'll find a way to get it even with a newborn in tow, and if you don't really need it, well...
Things I never used or used once include:
- bath seat (DD used her baby bath until she was 2)
- Jolly jumper (DD hated it)
- Walker (it was a gift - I would never have bought one)
- Way too many muslin wraps (only needed half the amount we had)
Well Jazz is only 3 months but our baby bath was useless, she hated it from day one a preferred to be able to float and kick in the big bath with one of us. We've used it maybe three or four times... Lucky it was a gift!
