Sleeping baby = 6 weeks old...

    Hello!

I may be worried for no reason but...
my six week old baby girl has just started to have a "big" sleep at night time and Im worried she wont wake herself up for a feed...

For example today she had milk at 4.pm - then a play, a nap, a bath, a change & then she feel asleep again... she is still asleep now - six hours later at 10.pm...

So do I wake her when she does this? Or just leave her? Feed her more when she does wake? Does anyone else have a six week old that does this? She is such a good baby so do I just enjoy this sleepy time or do I worry?

When she was first born she lost a lot of weight because she was too tired to wake up for a feed so I am paranoid its going to happen again...

Any comments would be helpful... reassuring even...

Okay so I'm jealous!! I would def leave her because Iw ould have been so tired at that stage. However if you are concerned abouther weight gain I would wake her and feed her or dream feed her (feed while sleeping). If you want her to be in some sort of routine I would wake her too. But... my saying as are many mothers' sayings...NEVER WAKE A SLEEPING BABY!!!

Jazz did the same thing... and I worried too

The advice I got was... if she is gaining weight, pooing and weeing regularly, is feeding well when she is awake, and is generally settled, then let her sleep, she will wake when she is hungry!
If it seems like she isn't feeding properly, or she isn't gaining weight, I would wake her to feed her.

(P.S. Enjoy it while it lasts ours didn't last all that long! )

from the day DD was born she slept for 6 hous, pretty much every sleep.

as long as she is gaining weght, peeing etc, just enjoy it hun. She'll probably do the opposite soon enough

My DD was sleeping 14 hours a night from 5 days old, I was worried but my mum told me she would wake if she was hungry so I let her go. She was a great weight & has had pretty much the same sleep routine (through the night) since, except she now goes to be a bit later at night LOL

DS decided to do his "long" sleep from about 4pm, he's sleeping anywhere from 10-13 hours a night so this meant I still had to get up "through the night" to feed him. I decided to try waking him for a feed 3 hours after his last to see if it would change his routine. At first it didnt seem to but after a week or so he has changed it himself (I dont know if its from me waking him or not!) so now he has his last feed at about 8pm & sleeping through til about 7am. I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts just incase he's not like his sister & decides to change his sleep patterns on me again LOL As we all know, babies are very unpredictable when it comes to sleep!

So I guess the waking for a last feed or dream feeding may get that big lump of sleep better timed with your sleep, it may not so I dont know whether or not it would be a good thing to try.
The reason why I shared my story with you is because as we all know it makes a world of difference when a mother is well rested, it makes life alot easier with a new baby, so if your baby has decided to have the long sleeps it would be good if it could be timed for you to get the sleep time aswell if that makes sense.

I totally agree with the others that if your baby is gaining weight, having a good amount of dirty nappied etc then the large lump of sleep is fine

    Enjoy it!

PS I hope my post made sense lol I had my wisdom tooth removed last friday & I've got a headache so my words are kind of all over the place.... sorry

    Hi,
My DD was sleeping 10hrs at night from 6wks but around 12wks her weight gain had dropped so I would give her a dream feed during the night. If your bubs is gaining weight let her sleep, she will wake if she is hungry.

    Regards,
