Early riser but then back to bed a few hrs later!

DS is 16 mths and pretty much since birth has has woken up early (5.30 at the moment) wide awake but then about 2 hours later needs another 1 hours sleep.

I have tried ignoring him but he just gets louder and louder, also giving him his bottle then puttin him back into his cot, but he is having none of it! He's ready to play. I just wish he could tag that extra hour onto his big sleep and get up at 6.30am!

Does anyone else's bub do this?

YES! DD has always been like this but very luckily her early starts have got later and later and she's gradually gone from waking up at 4am to more like 7am. But still needs to go back to bed soon afterwards. This morning, for example, she woke up at 6am and was back in bed at 7.20am until 11.30am!!!!

Now it has over the months driven me mental because I am NOT a morning person and 8am is my perfect time to wake up. But by the time she is ready to go back to bed, I am wide awake.

The only things that seems to make a difference is if DP is snoring (she still sleeps in our room) - she sleeps later if he is. I think she finds it soothing.

Yep, us too. DD is up anywhere between 5am and 6.30am, (that's a sleep in in our house!). Then she's ready for bed again in about 2-3hrs. She's 20mths and still has 2 day sleeps usually 1hr in the morning and anywhere up to 2 1/2hrs in the arvo, then bed time is between 6.30- 7.30. But she's up anywhere between 2-5 times a night still too, usually only for her dummy though sometimes it is to have a midnight party . I have tried putting her to bed later, only one day sleep, cover her windows more...but she still wakes early, and is just grumpier all day the next day, so I just go with her now....I love that she still has 2 day sleeps, but night time wake ups really suck! Especially when I 'm up three or so times to feed DS now too. Needless to say I'm permanently t i r e d!!

Dear oh dear oh me! My babygirl is 5 months and 3 weeks. She is ready to play at 6am. Plays and feeds for an hour and back to sleep at 7am, not to mention she has two feeds during the night. She wakes up at 8:30am or 9:30am the latest. I hope she changes soon because sometimes it makes me tired especially during the day or if I sleep late during the night for whatever reason. Also, she has two 1 hour naps at 11:30am or midday and another one at 2:30pm or 3pm.

DD had just started sleeping in til 6.30 or 7, then having only one day sleep about 11, when summer kicked in. Now she is up at 5 every morning and back to having two sleeps. I think I'm going to have to do some drastic measures with her window coverings - but how do you stop those damn birds?! LOL

I will probably be shot for this as a lot of people dont like her, but maybe you could try one of tizzie halls books. I dont follow them to the rule but she has some basic guide lines that a great stepping stones.
My 6 month old goes to bed at 7pm and wakes around 6.30am - 7am. We have one night feed at 10.30pm-11pm.
He has done this since 4 months of age (when I read the book).
Its not for everyone, but I am a firm beliver that to read everything and every view point cant hurt. Im sure that no matter what you will eventually find your groove.
You just have to check out all your options and find what suits you best.

    Good luck.! x x

Actually I do like him having 2 sleeps still but yes by the time he goes back to bed at 8am I am wide awake too Then when I finally drift off, he wakes up again!!

He was having a period about a month ago where he slept up until 6.30am and it was great, that hour made all the difference! I too have tried putting him to bed later, stretching him to one sleep a day etc but he still wakes at the same time.

Oh well, glad to hear I'm not the only one! Wonder when he will learn to sleep until a sociable hour??!

My DD is almost 21 months and we have been having this drama for a loooooooooong time. When DD wakes at 5 or 5:30, I go in and tell her it is still night time and Mummy and Daddy have to sleep. This usually works - even with those pesky birds singing! We now normally hear her wake about 7 or 7:30 and she doesn't come into us until about 8 (she plays in her room) unless she needs a new nappy or is really hungry.

    Good luck
