    VIC 3yo kinder questions

Argh - just doing my head in trying to find out about kinder on our local area. I have so far worked out that enrolments are done through our local council. My main problem is that I want to find out about 3yo kinder, how much, what hours etc. I suppose my main gripe is that I want to find it all online, but no, there is zero information out there, so I need to call, which I forget about during business hours. How hard is it to have a website to just have some basic information??

I had applied for 2 days long day care next year, but have only been allocated one. So I am trying to decide whether it is worth sending DD1 to 3 yo kinder as well. I have heard that it could be $7 per hour, which is exxy compared to childcare after the CCB is applied. Maybe I am just better waiting to see if a 2nd day appears and saving the money for awhile. I do like the 2 days with just bubs to get things done, she loves going and often asks to go on other days. In the mean time there is a 2nd playgroup I can go to.

Is 3yo kinder worth it at all?

3 y/o kinder was the best thing I could have done for my DS1. He has really thrived and has made lots of friends.

All kinders work differently, ours is 2 days a week with 1 x 2 hour session and 1 x 2.5 hour session. I can't remember the exact fees for each term, but we worked out it's about $8 per session which is well worth it. He has learned so much and experienced more than I could give him.

I look forward to next year when he goes for 3 days a week and for longer sessions!

Ring your MCHN Astrid! Mine gave me all the enrolment forms for Caleb last week as it's handled through the council here so may be the case there too. They should have contact details for the enrolment officer who can help you with the info you need.

Ours is done throught the council as well.
DS' is $220 per term for 2x 2hrs a week

I was mad too Astrid, as all of the 4yo kinder info is avaiable oline but there is zero info on 3y0, I had to ring them from work to get the forms sent out to me.

Thanks for the info Ladies! So the pricing seems to be comparable to using occasional care.

When I have asked around about whether 3yo kinder is worth it for a child who already goes to childcare, the general answer is that it is not needed. I just wish there was an official stance on it. I suppose for us though, the kinder I am considering will be the one she goes to for 4yo kinder, so I get to see if we like it first.

Just grumpy about it all, as originally I was advised that getting the 2 days would not be a problem, I just may have to accept different days. Of course that was before all the ABC downfall came to light. So non ABC users are losing placements.

Called up both the kinder and the council this morning. Had to leave a message with the kinder, which is understandable, but the council, well what a pain. The enrolment lady is on holidays for week, ok fine with that. So the person on the phone wants to send me an enrolment form, I kept on explaining that I want to know about 3yo kinder first before enrolling. So she gets my details, reads it all back and states again she will get the lady to send me the form. No, I have questions, lots of them! So I can guarentee that next week I will receive an enrolment form in the mail, but no information
