Do most people just trust that their FS is doing absolutely everything they can?
I'm thinking of asking my FS what she would recommend if she wasn't constrained by law or or clinic rules - meaning are there things I'm missing out on trying because they are not yet approved here in Aus although they have been shown to have a positive impact on outcome elsewhere and/or the particular clinic doesn't believe in them (such as a particular drug or going to 3 day or blast transfers). I really want to know whether we are doing everything we can - or whether there are other options out there in this world that we should be considering.
I always take a list of questions to my FS. He has come to expect this of me. I have raised the idea of Lucrin and DHEA in previous appointments but he wanted me to get through a normal IVF cycle first before adding to "the mix". When my first down reg cycle did not work he was happy to change over to the shorter Orgulutran cycle. If this month does not work out for me, I will be putting forward a pretty strong case to improve the protocol even further. I am fortunate that I have the type of FS who says he is "open to suggestions". If I was younger I may not be so pushy, but I do not feel there is time on my side anymore and I do not want to miss any opportunities.
I'm going with a list of questions etc. to my next appointment. I'm not sure how open my FS will be...I hope she is open to ideas because I'd prefer not to change, but I do want to go to someone who is willing to "think outside the box" as I too don't want to miss whatever window I still have left (if any!)
Hi Buliej,
Due to some threads on BB, i recently asked my FS about some further tests as after 4 transfers we were not getting anywhere. Although at the time she did not think they were needed, she was happy for me to have them and one came up positive...so I'm now on meds for my FET.
I was hesitant in asking for the tests, and up until the moment we got the results back was wondering if I was over reacting...but now I'm so glad I asked. I do belive that my FS is trying to do everything possible, but I also think we have to take control and ask the hard questions - after all it is us who have the most at stake!
Think you're absolutly right wondering if there are more things that could be done for you.
I think we're paying a lot of money for this treatment so there is no reason why we should hesitate to try to get the most out of our FS, they don't do it because they want to do us a favour but it's their job.
Apart from that it's obviously most important for all of us to get the best possible treatment to get the outcome we want.
Good luck for your next appointment - would be interested in her answer.
