I know the "norm" I guess, is for pregnant women to feel hungry all the time but I feel really full really quickly? Is anyone else like this ? I only need a real little to fell really full these days and I feel really uncomfortable if I eat more than I need. Can anyone relate?
I can really relate, at various stages of my own pregnancy (including now) as I'm sure lots of other women here can also! I've also found that it's quite variable at different stages.
Under the influence of pregnancy hormones, your digestion and gastrointestinal tract go through a lot of changes and many women experience a number of symptoms that can also go hand in hand with feeling full. This can include feeling bloated (which is often why I get would get full quickly earlier on) and constipated.
Progesterone in particular relaxes your bowel, and slows down the rate at which you digest food, which could certainly make you feel fuller quicker, as you're not passing food into your bowel at the same rate anymore. Same would apply to overeating - there's a slower emptying of your stomach so that trying to fit that little bit more in just isn't comfortable now.
Morning sickness also made me less inclined to eat (as it tends to!) but also that when I did feel like eating, I just didn't feel like overfilling - perhaps it's our bodies' way of regulating how much food/calories/nutrients we help give our babies early on? It's sometimes all these changes in your GI tract that can exacerbate morning sickness as well, making food more of a "challenge" than previously.
Later on, you may find that you get full easily as well because of the pressure of your growing uterus pushing up on your internal organs (including stomach) - that's been happening to me a lot recently, and I'm almost 37 weeks now.
It does sound like what's happening is really in response to the changes that your hormones can have on your digestion etc., especially as the levels of hormones start to rise quickly even in early pregnancy. I hope you're feeling ok generally - I found that eventually that feeling did pass and at times I was ravenous, especially during the second trimester!
Congratulations again on your pregnancy and I hope it's a wonderful time for you for the next 8 months!!
Yep. I didnt expect the fullness to come until much later when the bub was actually taking up all the room and squishing my stomach, but it started really early for me too. but then i got hungry again quite quickly after a meal, like a hour later.
i am experiencing the same thing, i feel hungry and then when i get something to eat i can only eat half of it then i feel full.
and i have noticed that i am losing weight, but i am sure it wont be long and my cloths will be getting tight on me
i wouldnt worry to much about it, as long as your eating thats all that matters, i find that if i keep picking at food, it stops the hungry feeling from coming as i find that makes me feel sick and i HATE feeling sick lol
Yep can totally relate! And belive me when your 40 weeks like I am today you are full ALL the time but still hungry! VEry starnge feeling!
Congrats on your preg too!!
