    Clomid

    Hi Girls...

My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for 7 months with no luck. I have been to a naturopath, am charting my temps, have tried OPK's and am now seeing someone for acupuncture. Feeling very frustrated i might add

My question is: I have a GP appointment tomorrow to see if he can shed some light on the situation and have heard that Clomid works very very well...will the doctor prescribe it?

    Hi there
    I know your frustration!
Clomid worked well twice for me. I was diagnosed with PCOS when i was 25 TTC#1. Clomid is the only way that i O. Otherwise i never have cycles at all (which is fine when i'm not TTC!!).
A GP can't prescribe clomid as far as i know. I think your GP will refer you to a fertility specialist or OB/GYNE.

    Good luck xx

Strawberry - You may find that your GP will be hesitant to refer you to a specialist before the 12mth mark. Just so you can be prepared. Clomid is really beneficial if you ovulate late as its an ovulation induction treatment. I ovulate fine so it was of no benefit to me other than over stimulating egg production. There are heaps of reasons as to why it hasn't happened yet...
Charting is good, worth taking them to the GP when you go in case they help your case.

FWIW - I have tried all of those things too, and didn't find a miracle answer. Although the AP certainly worked on perfecting my cycles which was nice. And was really good for calming me down.

as the others have mentioned, it's highly unlikely you'll be referred for further assistance until you hit 12 months TTC as it's well within the realms of "normal" to take an otherwise healthy couple up to a year to conceive. the only way most doctors will refer you earlier is if you have a known problem (lack of cycle due to pcos or something) - the most likely thing is that your GP, if he doesn't tell you to come back in five months, will discuss referring you in a few months to a gyne for further investigation

very few GP's can prescribe clomid - and most won't at this early stage. clomid is generally given in conjunction with other tests to ensure you're not over stimulated as this can be dangerous for you. clomid also doesn't work for everyone - unfortunately for some (me for example) - all it does is make you moody as hell and you get nowhere!

    good luck

Thank you for all the advice....well today was the day!!!

Have been to see the doctor and he has done some blood tests and my husband has to produce a semen sample (whether he wants to or not) hehehe I think he thought it was ok if it was me with the problem but now that we are testing him he's not as willing...

GP said he could prescribe clomid but wasn't willing so he has referred us to a fertility clinic I'm hoping they will be able to tell us what is going on.

I know 7 months isn't that long but i want nothing more than a baby and it's so frustrating when every month its a negative

    Will keep you posted xx

Strawberry - So very glad you have a supportive GP who was willing to refer you.
Hope that the FS will be a great help in achieving your miracle baby.

So....we are waiting on our appointment from the referral GP gave us for the FS....I was due yesterday and no period!!! Don't know if i'm just gettting excited about nothing Went to the chemist today to get a PG Test and did it straight away and it was negative...Could that be because i did it in the afternoon? How long do you think i should wait before i go to the doctors and tell him that i'm late?

I know so many questions and i am only ONE day late but i want this soooooo bad. Maybe thats why i'm late....who knows

    Any thoughts would be GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
