What author/book would be good read for DH (xmas stocking idea :) )

Want to get a real good novel for DH.
Not sure what authors he is into - and cant find any of his books lying around to check...but he has really liked White Teeth and Silmarillion etc
Anything with a good story and well written I suppose .

I was going to suggest a book that my DH, who usually only reads the standard car mags etc, just had to get, after hearing his workmates talk about. It's called, Don't Tell Mum I Work on the Rigs, She Thinks I'm a Piano Player in a Whorehouse...

It's written by Paul Carter, he is Australian and it's all about him working on the oil rigs and some of the things that him and his buudies got up to. It is an absolute laugh. DH and I were fighting each other for the book, as we were reading it at the same time. Both of us were laughing out loud while reading it.

Not really a novel. But DH and his workmates would sit around at work and talk about it. Wonder what they would say if I mentioned that they sound like they had a bookclub going lol!

I'm a bit late for a Christmas suggestion but thought I'd post anyway.

Tell No One by Harlan Coban.

Every person I know, including myself, has read it in a single sitting. You just HAVE to know what happens. My DH, who hasn't read anything since Roald Dahl in Year 8, devoured it. It was so funny, he lay on the floor infront of the wood heater and wouldn't even talk to anyone!!!!

Saw this thread and thought I might bump it since Father's Day is coming up.

DH has really been enjoying the Girl with a Dragon Tattoo trilogy, I think he'd recommend it to anyone.
Before that he read The Story of Danny Dunn by Bryce Courtenay.
In between he has been reading the Sookie Stackhouse books (that the Trueblood tv series is based on)

Girl with a Dragon Tattoo - definitely - and the up side is that if he likes the first, there are 2 more that are just as good.
