    Anothe $1000 question

    Hi,
    Question for the Centrelink gurus...
I applied for FTBA fortnightly payments after the 14 October (baby born in July). When I rang in October the lady at the FAO said we would still get the bonus in December as the FTB was backdated to the baby's birth. Anyway payments started in October but were from the date of application and not backdated to the 8 July 2008. My last FTBA payment was on the 10/12/2008 but no $1000 appeared. Rang the FAO and on lady told me that I would not receive the $1000 until I lodged my tax return as I wasn't receiving FTBA on October 14 and it hadn't been backdated but another lady told me I would, however it would be late and paid in January as we were ENTITLED to FTBA on October 14.
Which answer sounds correct please? Is there anything further I can do so I receive the payment earlier eg can I get FAO office to backdate the payment to the 8 July?
    Thanks for you answers.

centrelink guru maybe - thousand dollar guru, not so much

my understanding is that, if you weren't receiving payment on October 14 (so if it wasn't backdate to date baby was born) then you're not going to get it until tax time. essentially, the way i'm seeing it, is that you applied for baby bonus at birth (is this right?) and ftb not until later - as a result, it won't be backdated until your tax is done. if it had been your FIRST application (so baby bonus and ftb together) it would have been backdated.

    hope that makes sense

Thanks Briggsy's girl. I just realised why FAO didn't backdate my FTB to when my daughter was born because normally they would have. Unfortunately I had a higher income estimate at the beginnng of the financial year and I didn't update it until after October 15 when I applied for FTBA (our income fell from me being on Mat leave). At least I know why now.
