We are with AAMI because we have our car insured with them and it was cheaper to get a package deal.
We went with AAMI because the solicitor at work who deals with personal injury claims said that they are the BEST insurer to deal with and the ones who are most likely to come to the table with the cash.
we went through a broker(so i didnt have to do the running around)
and we are now all with alliance.
when we had h&c(now only C as we sold up) we never made a household claim but did for our cars and that was dealt with so quickly
We've been with CGU for over 10 years. They have been great. We have accidental cover with Nil excess (which I don't think they offer anymore but they still honor our claims). In the time we have been with them we have made 5 claims... all resulting in a cheque in the mail after a phone call and then posting back a form). They were for: (approximate costs)
A drowned mobile phone $200
An accidentally broken iron (running child pushed it off ironing board onto tiles) $100
A drowned keyboard $50 (courtesy of my DD and a glass of juice).
A damaged pram (same DD tried to ride in it damaging the chassis beyond repair) $1000 (3 in 1 Emmaljunga)
They did question the pram claim a bit more vigorously compared to the other claims... but we still got our cheque in the mail after we sent in a receipt for the new pram. We still had the receipts and manual for the old pram which helped.
All claims were direct replacements for existing items. New for old. The pram that was damaged was 8 years old but that didn't bother them.
So we've been very happy with them and have never considered changing.
All our insurance is with RACV. Have had to claim with them in the past for both car & contents insurance & they were fantastic. Twice got robbed & both times they were very prompt with dealing with the situation. The window was fixed I think within 24 or maybe 48 hours & the tools that were stolen were replaced within about a week. I used to be with AAMI for my car & after making a claim switched back to RACV as they took forever to fix my car - my car was away for 3 weeks with AAMI as against 3 days with RACV for almost identical damage to the same car.
I was ith HBA when I lived in a cheaper suburb for insurance. We had a water damage claim and they were so fantastic. They honoured payment for items which I had thrown out and hadn't even shown them proof!
I am now with Real Insurance as they are so cheap!
I'm with GIO. My sister's house burnt down last year and they were fantastic to deal with. Nothing was too much trouble for them, they got the house fixed and all their belongings replaced in a reasonable amount of time.
We are through our bank. They have been pretty good and cover everything that was really important, like cyclones (considering they expect one this summer). We have not needed to make a claim at this stage but if everything gets wrecked we have been told by people who are with them that they are pretty quick.
I'm with Vero & got a discount being a customer of Bank of Qld - they were also one of the only ones who did a decent landlords insurnace. All cars (just 2 for now) are through Shannons because of what they are (Chevy Impala & a modified Mazda 2)
We have all our insurance- contents & two cars through AAMI. I think they're great. When I had my car accident in August there were no hassles with lodging the claim or waiting weeks for the money to come through, as it was a complete write-off. I was worried about not getting the money, as its a long story, but basically the driver of the car in the wrong wasn't covered under the insurance for the car...but they said don't worry, you'll get your money anyway! We found them very helpful and it was all sorted out very quickly, for which we were thankful!
For our contents insurance, we pay about $300/yr, and even my engagement ring is covered under it, for theft & loss, which is great. We wouldn't use anyone else!
We have everything with AAMI and have found them fantastic. We had to make a claim after the last cyclone a few years ago, and had no hassle with them. We've also made 2 car claims in the past couple of years, and again, really easy to deal with.
I too have heard Suncorp are the worst to deal with, and one of the most expensive as well.
Can't stand AAMI as a car insurer - my car went in 6 times for the same repair (somebody ran up the back, not a lot of damage) and they still couldn't get the freaking colour right so we gave up - each time it went in it came back with something else wrong (chipped window, chipped paint elsewhere) it wasn't until the 4th time it went back that AAMI actually gave me a hire car (then the hire company TWICE tried to charge me for it because the insurance company said one week for the hire and it took 3-4 weeks each time to get my car back & I'd rung AAMI to remind them to let the car hire place know). AAMI have wiped their hands of the situation - so much for the lifetime guarantee.
We swapped to Suncorp after that, they were ok until the day I rang them to let them know I'd modified my car (turbo in a Mazda 2) and they cancelled ALL our car insurances (3 vehicles) on the spot. That is when we went to Shannons and they've been brill. Am contemplating taking my contents insurance over to them because they cover a lot more "enthusiast" specific things (like tools, memorabilia etc). Shannons also do weekend driving cover (for 112 driving days a year) which means the Impala has comprehensive insurance but it isn't expensive - she only gets driven on weekends anyway.
