How can I stop my 9mth old from doing this?

My gorgeous DS stands up in the bath!!!
It is driving me nuts. I think it is very dangerous and obviously don't want him to do it. Each time he does it I tell him 'No!, You have to sit down in the bath' and then I sit him back down. But he keeps doing it and doing it and doing it. He has slipped over not once but twice, but it has not deterred him. I'm very worried about him doing a serious injury.
Anyway. Is there anything I can do aside from what I'm already doing? Is it just a phase which will pass? I distract him with toys and play with him, but he still just wants to stand up. Am I jut expecting too much from a 9mth old?
    Happy to hear any advice
    TIA

My daughter does it every single night. Will sit for 2 minutes then stand up for the rest. Not sure what it is either but will watch this thread. I use a really good non slip mat. She has slipped before but only hanging onto the side, not from the bottom of the bath. I assume you have a non slip mat anyway? I got a fairly long one from Howard's Storage World, fits the bath really well and is a "pebble" look design. Not sure if you have a HSW down in Vic?

Anyway, you're not alone, my DD has been doing it for 2 months now

It will pass, but you need to be really consistent with saying no & sitting him back down. When he sits for a bit, praise praise praise!!! I'm sure for several months all you could hear in my bathroom was "Sit down Zander. Good boy, that's wonderful sitting, excellent work. No Zander sit down, you'll slip over.... Good boy sitting nicely, good job." LOL! Make sure you explain to him why he needs to sit as well, he will understand a lot more than you think

Thanks Sarah, I must admit I do not praise him when he does sit down. I'll try that.

Queenbee I have a non slip mat but it is short. I'll see if I can suss our a long one, sounds good. Thanks

Praise is a wonderful thing for babies, they love to see mummy happy & telling them how clever they are We would go over the top, more praise than was really needed but it really helps.

I'll agree with praise. My DD2 has just started, and DD1 went through it to. She stopped (with time) but I admit I got more frustrated than full of praise. With this one I tried praise and it worked!!! GO PRAISE!!

    Good luck.

All I do is say this.. We sit down in the bath please.. when they stand again I say if you stand up again you are getting out.. then when she stands up I take her out..

they grow out of it eventually.. Maybe just shower a fw nights a week lol.. I do that to minimise the stress of bath time

I actually still have DS in a bath chair. He is quite happy sitting in it - so can swivel around a bit, but can't get out or stand up. I like the freedom of being able to do other things in the bathroom while he is having a bath (eg. I have a shower, or sort washing in the bathroom) - because I know he is safe in the bath.

Olivia climbs out of her bath seat :/ so we had o stop using it ...

the other thing I do is make sure there are new toys every couple nights so she stays occupied for longer while I wash her..

also getting in the bath too helps
