Simple recipes for veggie meals for my 6 month old bub?

    Hi all

I need to find some easy to make vegie recipes for my little girl. She has just started solids and I want her to have a vegetarian diet. I haven't had a lot of luck trying to find some variety in recipes on the net. She isn't very fussy at the moment and likes all the vegies she's tried, which have been store bought baby food.

I really want to find out what vegies goes best with what, i.e. one vegie that has the iron will go with one that has vitamin C. Lentils and kidney beans will be part of her diet but I'm not sure what to put them with. I want to start making some meals at home to give her more variety and make sure she gets all the nutrients and vitamins.

Any recipes and advice is appreciated!

Hi there. I have a couple of Annabel Karmel recipe books. One of them is Top 100 baby purees and it has some great stuff in there.

babies under 12 months shouldnt have lentils, as they cant digest them properly.
so stay with your veg and pasta and rice's.

I don't think that is true as I got a dietician plan for my (vegetarian) baby when he was starting solids and she said "well-cooked red lentils from 7-8 months; well-cooked brown lentils from 8-9 months; well-cooked mashed chickpeas from 9-10months". She specialises in vegetarian and vegan diets.

Lovinoven - I will email you some information that I have been given if you like. PM me with your email address. Also if you contact the vegetarian society of QLD they give out free starter packs with lots of information including for kiddies. It doesn't beat a proper dietician plan but is a good start. I also have the details of the dietician I used who is very well known within the vegetarian/vegan community and does workshops etc. She does consults online so you don't need to be near her. Iron is important but arguably more important and less well known is vit B12 which isn't available in many vegetarian sources unlike iron, so a proper plan can help cover your bases (and saves lots of nagging from doctors!!)

    Talking Bub food

Thank you ladies for your responses. I definitely want to make sure she gets all the protein and iron she needs. This is hard work, but by the time I get the hang of preparing the right foods for her she'll be eating better than me! She hasn't started on pasta yet, and she's still having the rice cereal which she likes.

    Thanks again!
