HELP - Huggies leaking out the back?!?! What the???

I am absolutely baffled as to how huggies newborn nappies are leaking out the back (yep wets his singlet & all) especially when I have a little boy? Has anyone else had this problem. I haven't had an issue with them until tonight & it's happened twice in a row. I feel really frustrated. I haven't started using cloth nappies yet as he's bottom is a bit too small.

Now I'm curious... We had one leak up the back last night, but just one... Hadn't had any problems at all with them in hospital, and no other problems before or since. I just assumed he'd been peeing heaps and had saturated the nappy and with lying on his back, that's where the excess moisture went.

huggies at the bacck are nooooo where near as padded as they used to be!! there used to be heaps more padding where they now have that elastic part!!!! maybe pop a cover over the top if you already have some!!

    Ahhh little boys!!

They leak out the back because their penis would have been pointing up towards their belly when they wee'd. The wee then would have gone up towards their belly, trickled down and around their waist and back where there is no padding. Even if you point their penis down, with movements it can still move back up. But yeh just make sure you try and always point it down otherwise... thats the best you can do. I had the same problem with DS ALL the time. He would wet through every 2nd night. DD being a girl.. hasnt wet through once.

I found huggies useless in containing anything lol We had poop all up the back and all ! YUCK!

If you have covers, try one of those. We used cloth flats from the first day and with a good cover (we used BBH PUL and Mother Ease Rikki) you can use them no matter how little the bum hehe

    Good luck! I HATE LEAKS!

We use to have the same problem. But as Kellz had mentioned, our little saying when doing his nappy was "doodle down". Most of the time it worked and I don't remember it being an issue since he was about 2 or 3 months old.

Not much you can do about it. I found them to be pretty hopeless for leaks out the back too

Do you have any flats (or a towel) you can use to put under him so you at least don't have to change the bed if it leaks?

I have had huggies leak out the back too AJC. In fact, i have had them leak everywhere. I just thought it was becasue he was a skinny bub and they didnt fit properly. I gave up just a few days ago and Byron is in cloth full time now and havent had a leak since. I held off putting him in cloth as he was so small but they are fine.
Maybe try him in his cloth and see how he goes.

I slept DS with a couple of terry flats under him for that reason too, and it does save on changing the sheets. And another thing I found, when I got the leakage going up a size seemed to help too. I only used newborns for about 3 weeks, and went to the infants size.

Thanks everyone, I think I might get started on the cloth nappies sooner rather than later.
