how long do babies poo myconium for?

I may have the spelling of that wrong - I mean that first kind of poo that babies do after they are born.

Is it really green? (oh, the things I am going to have to learn!)

I read somewhere that it can stain stuff badly and that therefore it's not a bad idea to use disposable nappies at first, until all that kind of poo is finished. Seems like a good idea to me. But I have no idea how long that thing lasts - a day? A week?

    Thanks!

    it can vary.
    dd was about 3 days

it is almost black in colour and yes like tar (ds pooed on me whilst we were bfing straight after birth lol )

if you want to use cloth, just double fleece line perhaps?

my DD lasted a few days, I still used my bamboo prefolds and didn't get a stain, they washed up find with no soaking and the sun got rid of what ever what left.

I know of lots of people who manage to get mec stains off their cloth. No need to use sposies unless you want to.
I honestly can't remember how long Natty's lasted exactly, but certainly it was only a couple of days.

It reminds me of vegemite It doesn't stain stuff at all I found, but I did send stuff back home with DH under strict instructions to wash straight away.
