Routine for a 6 1/2 month old on Solids

Does anyone have a routine for a 6 1/2 month old on solids? I really just need a fair idea on how everyone else does it. I don't think mine is working anymore. For example when do you feed them solids, before or after the bottle and if after how long after and how many solids a day and what you give them for morning, lunch and dinner. I blend up Baileys food and prepare all that myself so do not know what to blend together. What is nice.
    Help please.

My twins are almost 7 months old and have a variety of foods. When they wake I give them a bottle. About a hour after I give them some breakfast. I give them some rice cereal followed by a little bit of fruit. For lunch I give them a bottle first again, then solids after. I usually give them some vegies, followed by a little fruit again. Then I normally give them some dinner at just after 4pm or so and they have a bottle just before bed. We all do it differently though I am sure so try and find what suits your bub the best. However in saying that milk is still the most important source of food.

The twins have been on solids for a few weeks now and I have upped the amount slowly. If you are just starting with solids maybe just offer some cereal in the morning and work up from there. My two pretty much like any combination of things. They love sweet potato and zucchini mixed together, also carrot and pumpkin and they are currently trying a mix of swede, carrot and pea.

Have a look around for some recipes. I have some Annabel Karmel books that I make some mixes out of.

    Hi Laura,

I think it's best to go solids within an hour after a milk feed until they are about 9 months, then the other way around.

Start with one meal at about 6 months- breakfast or lunch is good, then if the food gives them a bellyache it won't keep them up. Introduce 2 meals at 7 months, then 3 at 8 months, then snacks between meals as well.

A mix of steamed vegies is nice, but I don't know many bubs who like potato puree'd Mashed banana and avocado is also good. Keep things really simple at first. At this age, solids is just for fun- tasting new things and feeling new textures. Don't expect bubs to eat much at first- a couple of teaspoons is a good effort.
