Which one tells the real risk factor? Background risk or Adjusted risk of Trisomy?
Hi,
I just got the result of my first trimester test which combined a blood test and NT scan.
In the result, there are the following risk factors, and I'm wondering which one really tells the risk I'm having? Could any one that knows please tell me? Thanks a lot.
background risk of TRisomy 21 1:883
Adujsted risk of Trisomy 21 1: 16395
background risk of TRisomy 13+18 1:1744
Adujsted risk of Trisomy 1:34855
The adjusted is the best estimate, they base on age, family history, plus the blood test and scan. All of those numbers look very low risk though, so I wouldn't stress about it
The background risk is based on your age at delivery, so guessing you will be 31 years old ish at delivery?
When they add in your NT measurement and blood results, your risk has gone down (got better). This means that based on average results of women your age, your NT measurement + blood tests were less representative of a pregnancy with T21 than others.
hope that helps, i don't know if it is very clear.
as the others have said the adjusted risk is taking into account results from your tests specifically so is more accurate (the background ones are statistics based on risk factors - age etc). All of the numbers you have there are v v low risk, so you have nothing to worry about.
