    Best way to take temp?

    Hi ladies

I just thought I'd get some thoughts on the best method for taking your temp when charting? I have read that oral, vaginal and auxillary (underarm) are all ok, but I was wondering what the best way was? Also how long does it take for your thermometer to beep? I havd recently got a digital and the timer is only 30sec. Wasn't sure if that was long enought to get a good bbt?

I dont know about when charting, but the most accurate temperature measurement is through rectal measurement if I remember correctly. That is certainly the case when taking children's temperatures, as it gives a more precise result.

But I am sure you dont want to do that to chart! lol

Yep the BB basal thermos (in the online store) in the instructions says thats the best way. But a basal thermo is pretty good as is.

I temp vaginally and I find that popping it down there has given me less eratic temps but also because I close my legs over the thermo it blocks out the beeping noises so it doesn't wake DP

Another temping qn, Im having abreak from it now but will start soon unless I dont need to. Im a shift worker and have erratic temps as I just cant take them at the same time. I did oral as was told it didnt matter which you used but had to be consistent. Is it likely I will get less erratic temp vaginally??

I only ever did it orally & it was very easy to see the temp shifts - including temp dips when implantation occurred.

I was a shift worker too (QAS) and i took my temps vaginally - i found that they were alot more consitant taking them that way than anyother way!
    Goodluck with it all!

I am a shift worker and always took temp orally. Generally I would wake up anywhere from 5am - 8 am to go for a wee or because DH getting up so I would take temp before getting up and often wouldnt read it till i actually wake up and get up properly. No issues here
