I have not read his book personally but I have seen Peter Walsh on Oprah before and he is a de-cluttering expert (originally from Australia). He does have a book out I think. I think he combats the emotion reasons why people keep certain clutter etc and how to get rid of it. He has some good ideas that I saw on a show a week or two ago.

I am a bit obsessive about organising books and websites. By far my favourite is "Confessions of an Organised Homemaker" by Denise Schofield. It goes beyond basic decluttering and into how to organise calendars and to-do lists, organising your kitchen (there are over 50 pages on this topic alone), de-cluttering toys and other people's belongings, paper organising (bills, passports, etc), storage, and how to begin.

You could also look at some of the de-cluttering websites around - Flylady is an obvious one.

Finally, just start throwing stuff out. Any book you buy is going to say that in order to de-clutter you need to reduce the amount of stuff you have. So start now and throw out/donate/whatever 10 things, big or small.

I have seen Peter Walsh a couple of times and I read an article in a magizine that he wrote. I really liked some of his ideas, I'll have to see if I can get a book of his from some where.

Roryrory - I saw that book today on Amazon I think. Thanks for the tip to get started now!!! First goal is my wardrobe!!! I have pre- baby clothes that don't fit and wil be so out of fashion by the time I'll be slim enough to wear them so I may as well get rid of them now.

    Thanks for the replies ladies.

When I moved house, I chucked out a tonne of clothes. Even things I liked. If it didn't fit and was more than a tad tight, it was in the charity box. I bought some new things, just basic casual pieces to get me through. Over time I will build up more, but I have plenty to wear and do not complain at all. This year, for winter I will buy a new pair of jeans and possibly boots. But I don't need much. I got rid of ornaments and bits and pieces I didn't need. Currently I store things in shopping green bags as I don't have a set of drawers for pens, hair stuff, notebooks, and bits and pieces. I put books on bookcases, and if its too full, I go through it and get rid of things I don't like, or use anymore. Mind you, DF is a messy man. He has bits and pieces in much of the house. I tidy but he messes it up. One of these days I'll kick his bum!

    Good luck!
