    Kitchen cabinet / drawers decisions

    Hi all,

We are building a new house and meeting with our carpenter on Tuesday. We need to deicde our kitchen layout. Just wanted advice on whether you'd go for more drawers or cupboards in the kitchen? Have heard some good comments about the newer style drawers to put plates, etc in rather than cupboards - anyone have them and love / hate them. We'll also need to consider pot drawers and larger height cupboards (without shelving) for my bigger appliances (mix master, slow cooker, deep fryer, etc!). Anything else that people have that they love / hate? Any ideas on what should be positioned where would also be helpful.

I hope to be doing a kitchen renovation this year and I'll be going for mostly drawers. They just seem so much easier than trying to bend down and see what's been pushed to the back of a cupboard.

People that I know who have drawers say they are very happy with the decision.

I'd also like in my kitchen a place to keep some recipe books rather than the book case in the lounge room.

Excellent idea - I definitely need that - mine are all lying flat in a cupboard - it would be nice to display them on a shelf.

I just had my kitchen renovated, with all drawers, except under the sink and I would never go back to cupboards. I love my drawers!! My neighbour has drawers in her kitchen and she would never go back to cupboards.. Just remember all the time you have spend on your hands and knees trying to get to the back of a cupboard - that is eliminated with draws. You can also get some funky corner draws (which I highly recommend) instead of having a lazy susan or one of those horrid corner cupboards.

Personally I prefer cupboards because they are easier to put childproof locks on. You could do cupboard fronts with drawers inside the cupboards.
