    Not gaining weight

    Hi,

My DD Olivia was weighed just before she turned one and was 8.6kg.. They wanted us back in a month as she hadn't gained anything from her 6 month check up.. today I finally made it back again and she still hasn't gained a thing.. She is still 8.6kg

Overall she is a healthy bub.. Walking, sleeping heaps better, talking, pretty much doing everything she should be doing..

Has anyone else had a bub that hasn't gained weight? So its been 7 and a bit months since any weight gain

Yep!! Mackenzie was always in the 75-97% percentiles for weight for about 8 months then when she had her one year check up she had only put on a few hundred grams. I had to take her back at 13 months and she lost weight so I had to take her back at 14 months. We now don't have to go back till 18 months cause she put a little weight back on.

Our biggest issue was not her weight (she's VERY chubby but small) but she wasn't eating so they wanted to monitor her. IF your bubs is doing everything fairly normally then I wouldn't worry too much. I think it's good that the MCHN's feel obliged to check because if something was wrong they could pick it up.

Nic - Em is 17 months and has been around 10 kg since before she turned 1. As they get more active it gets harder to get them to gain weight. She is not listless and still uses her nappies from what you have said so she is not failing to thrive, she is just little. Walking does take a lot of her energy still so just keep having food available to her and she will eat when she is hungry. If she was having trouble getting enough energy she would have no thighs and no bum cheeks. I am sure it is just a precaution, and they just want to make sure there is nothing that could be causing her to stay the same weight apart from her energy use and excellent metabolism.

FWIW, I don't think Alister has gained any weight for months - at 12mths he was just over 10kg. I know he's gotten HEAPS taller though. My Mantra is that it takes all shapes and sizes LOL.
