Baby sign language

Has anybody taught their baby/ies the baby sign with success? We tried to teach DS#1 but he only learnt the sign for "milk" haha guess it was the only 1 he thought was important. Thinking on starting to teach DS#2 as he gets very frustrated sometimes when we dont understand his noises

yes we started teaching DD basic things like "more" and "finished" from about 5mths - she got the hang of it by about 8-9mths. With DD2 I think we will teach her a few more as it was so useful the first time around!

We've successfully taught our DD the sign for sleep (hand on ear, head tilted as if you were asleep), for "more" (as in, more food please!), which is open hand up to mouth (although she actually says 'more' now too), and the sign for poo, which we hope will help out with TT (she squeezes her nose, in a stinky kind of way, when she's done one). She hasn't really got the hang of any other signs, we're certainly not forcing them on her though. The ones she knows, she uses ALL the time, and always appropriately... its brilliant, and I think she really enjoys it that we totally understand each other. I borrowed the book 'Baby Hands" from the LIbrary, and that was full of info. I'd go for it, for sure. We started just recently, when DD was probably about 14 months, but I think she would have been ready for it sooner.

I'm keen to try this too. I ordered a baby signs chart from the internet as my bub spontaneously started using an arm signal for "milk" from about 8 weeks - tho i'm still not sure if i am imagining it, but it's consistent when I put him in the position for breastfeeding, or if i stop feeding him before he's finished. It's a straight arm brought down quickly from head to hip. He doesn't have the hand skills for any other signs tho (and his "milk" sign isn't the one that's used on the chart - he uses a particular whole arm movement) - but i'll probably start using some basic ones to get him used to it.
