    Good home builders

We are thinking of putting a deposit on a block of land. Can anyone recommend a good builder of a 5 bedroom house? I just want to hear people's opinions. Av jennings, dixon etc.. Who are good? I live in south east qld.

This would be our first time building a new home. I'm excited!

    Hi there
I'm also interested in this as well, we are looking for a builder at the moment. I'm in SA.
I've heard to stay away from AV Jennings as they're pretty dodgy and also Marshall Thompson as I've heard that they may be going under!
As for who's a GOOD builder, I'm still trying to work that out for myself!
    Good luck!

My parents built a home 4 bedroom home with Homestead Homes and can not speak highly enough about them. They are a smaller company but they do quality work and quality finish. They also had reliable people who worked for them that always turned up on time and knew exactly what they were doing. The home was built in 5mths. They were able to make the changes that they wanted to to the original plan of the house and the builder was very good at explaining different things.

What my mum also liked was towards the end, the builder said to her and dad, go through every part of the house and write down a list of anything that you are not happy with and we will come through and make changes, etc to suit your needs. So they ended up with such a top quality finished home.

good luck and congratualtions on your new block of land. Hope that you can find a great house to build on it.

We built a house and we had a FANTASTIC experience!!

My suggestion would be to drive around the area and look at homes that are being built - more often than not there will be a builders sign out the front. We used a local builder and found that we were more of a priority for him - the bigger companies often have LOTS of houses on the books and getting an answer for something can take days. We also found that most larger companies charged a premium for the "brand".

My advice - GO LOCAL!!! You will save heaps and get a much more personalised service.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks for the responses. I am going to do my research before we jump in and build with just anyone. It's good to hear some personal experiences.

Not quite the same - we had an extension built. We used a small local company. I got quotes from big firms, as well as smaller firms. The company we used, had the lowest quote, (and had more in it), the builder has some great ideas and was happy to tell us what would or would not work. Our extension was built in under a month. With no hassles at all.

I agree - go local - and the biggest is not always the best.
