    Standard Blood Allergy Test

    Hi,

Has anyone had the standard blood allergy test done which their doctor has recommended? Is it worth it or is it worth going to an allergy centre for a more detailed check? Has anyone been to an allergy centre? Is it expensive?
I know i am lactose intolerant (through trial and error) and believe that i may be wheat intolerant too. I seem to bloat when i eat muesli, weet-bix or anything hi-fibre.

I'd love to hear your experiences...

My DD has severe egg allergy, so for her I found the full allergy test well worth it. It did cost a few hundred (maybe $300) but Im sure i got most back.
Then what I did, which may be better for you, is I saw a kenisiologist who specialises in allergies. She found DD2 had 40 intolerances/allergies, so we've been working on them. I had about 10 and DD1 had about 10. It's pretty amazing how they clear it up. ONly thing is it's a bit pricey so check with health care etc. Not sure where you live either. My kenisiologist is in Syd.
Also as your allergies are maybe more intolerance's it might be better starting with the standard blood test
Hope this helps in some way. xoxo

    Thanks!

I've gotten the results back from the standard blood allergy test which my GP had asked me to get done and they came back negative. He did tell me that this blood test does have some limitations. So, i'm not intolerant to milk or wheat products! I find it really hard to believe.

I will get a full allergy/intolerance test which i have organised for on the 11th. It costs around $340 and you get some of it back from Medicare.

    Thanks once again

to throw my 2 cents worth in...
, i'm not intolerant to milk or wheat products! I find it really hard to believe.
Maybe you've got a sensitivity? That wouldn't be picked up in an allergy or intolerance test. Also, if it's a malabsorption (I replied to your other thread about hydrogen breath testing) that also wouldn't show up on allergy testing, as it's quite a different mechanism.

My DH doesn't cope well with milk protein... but it's not an allergy per se... when he did an elimination diet, he got symptoms in response to BOTH lactose free milk (thereby telling us it was probably not lactose) and to normal milk. He gets very mucousy, snotting, stomach cramps, pains, bloating, wind & diahrroea - he was essentially diagnosed with IBS, but he knows that dairy is his kryptonite so to speak!

Have you tried an elimination diet? Also... more food for thought... if you DO try one... one of the early foods re-introduced is pear which is very high in fructose. So that's one to watch out for. My laymans rule of thumb (not scientific at all!) is that if you bloat heaps after pear or apple - go the fructose breath test (hmmm shoulda said that in the other thread lol).
