I heard (so its not 'official') that if you were put on a black list it'll only be one for 5 years. Seeing as though its 6+ years ago, I doubt it would be a stain on you forever. And most people understand young and dumb renters LOL (no offence! Just saying, most understand young people + rental houses don't always mix the best!).
It was paid back in 2002 too...so hopefully it would be ok! I wonder actually if you can call. I know that there's some sort of rental board (obviously!). I wonder if they would be able to tell me?
Yeah you should try the tenants association (Its called RTA in Qld). They'll be able to tell you want warrents getting put on a blacklist, and how to get off it. They MAY even know if you are on or not.
If you've been renting since, and had a good record, it should wipe out something you did 7 years ago - you can prove you've learnt from your errors and are much more responsible. But def call the union and find out what they have to say...
If you paid back the outstanding rent, that will really help if it is still on your record. Just explain the circumstances, say that you made sure to pay them back, and since then have had no problems.

If you have been paying board, or can show that you pay other bills consistently that can help 'prove' your reliability now you are grown up and responsible.
Yeah, if you have a phone bill or something to prove that you are stable and reliable in paying then all should be fine.
I can tell you are stressing about this... please don't. If anything, I would approach a real estate in person and say "look, I am looking for a rental property but I'm really scared that what I did when I was young is going to effect my chances" and let them help you. Most of them will be really understanding, I promise. If they're not... well you probably don't want to rent with them anyway!
Thought i'd update....Im looking at 5 possible houses to rent tomorrow. Now i guess is when i'll find out if my previous history affects me or not! Wish me luck!!
Be upfront with them, tell them about it when they take you to see the houses. I had one rental mis-hap when I was young and stupid, it was all paid off years ago and it was still on record last time I rented which was 8 years after it happen. I find agents more understanding if you tell them first then them finding out off their computer and having to ask you about it. Best of luck tomorrow.
