Baby seat in a hire car?

    hi,

we are planning a lightening visit to Melb, to visit MIL in hosp, in ICU (intensive care unit).

have not hired a car before

is it hard to book a car with anchor points for a baby seat

do hire car companies supply baby seats, or do you have to bring your own baby seat as extra luggage?

and on the subject of hire cars in Melb, we know there are tollways there, do not want to get caught (not paying cos we're not sure where and how), so is there a way for casual tourist drivers to register somewhere, so they can take whatever we owe, off our credit card or something?

dh is stressing big time over this.

last time he drove in melb (in his own car) he got confused about the tolls, and got a warning e.g next time you drive here, you better had understand the tolls by then. he drives there once every few years, not often enough to learn itthe way a local driver would.

and if anyone knows of any family accom in box hill (near the Epworth Eastern hospital, Arnold Street, box hill - MIL is in), i'd love to hear about it

    thanks!

    HI Gigi,
Sorry to hear about your MIL

Yes you can book a car with a car seat - friends of mine visited when MJ was born from the UK and had one... Not sure who they booked through, but it would have been one of the big/well known companies.

I am also pretty sure that you can book a car with an etag (for the tolls)... if not, just google citylink and you will be able to see where the toll routes are - the 2 main free ways, Eastlink, and Citylink ... the Eastern Freeway, which is closest to BoxHill and goes directly tp the city is a toll free, freeway... I am pretty sure that you can get casual passes from the post office, but i am not sure if you can get them in advance as the car rego may need to be quotes, but i am sure that you can get a casual tag for any vehicle... as i said either goggle or call citylink Telephone: 13 26 29 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week)

Also most of the toll roads have a BLUE and YeLLOW sign as you enter, the others are in green and white.

Will have a look into family accom for you, i work at STV's and i will try and give BH a call from work and speak to the people there and get their recommendations... (however i am leturning new grad nurses all day long to day so it might not happen today) You could speak to the staff in ICU and they should have a few places that they are associated with and will give you their name and number

Again, sorry to hear about your MIL, what a sad reason to come down to melb for a visit Let me know if you need any more info

    take care

    Hi,

Most modern cars have perm anchor points, not just the holes. I was advised by the the hire care company to take the bolt, but I didn't need it.

We used our own seat, as I am paranoid about using a seat that another kid may of thrown up in, had an exploso poo or something.. But many people hire them, that is just a thing with me

We like to use Europcar as they don't freeze an additional amount as a bond if you pay with a credit card.

Not sure on the tolls in Melb, but if you google it, am sure it will tell you who you can get the toll tags from.. (I just went through this in Sydney, but have a screaming DD so don't have time to look just now).

Hi there.. i just travelled to melb with my 4mth old. We hired a car through Europe car and they were great. Car was ready with baby seat already installed. I just had to adjust the straps. You can arrange an etoll or you can use the ones in QLD if you have one or a friend may have one. We took ours adn just sat it on the dash..
