    Spiders - Lemon Oil

Hi, I have heard that rubbing lemon oil on areas where you dont want spiders to live stops them living there but I was just wondering for those that use this idea what lemon oil do you use is it lemon essential oil or something else??

I'm trying to find out the same thing myself, and where to find it.

Another gentle way to get rid of spiders is to make a nice place for lizards to live..they EAT them!

Lizards I can handle hehehehe but these spiders have got to go. I am pretty sure it is just essential oil and I think you can get it from the chemist but just wanted to see what other people say.

I've been looking also (mainly for cheap lemon essential oil as I don't want to spend heaps for this purpose). I got some citronella oil and put some on a rag and rubbed it on my broom while I swept around my light fitting, door, window, built in robe, cornises and the floor of my bedroom and since then I haven't seen any spiders in my bedroom. Yet to do the whole house though.

Also haven't had any flies of mossies in my bedroom either!

danniellabella - what does the citronella smell like, I like the the smell of lemon oil, but not sure about citronella. I like the sound of it though because my husband gets attacked by mossies they leave me alone but make a meal out of him and he swells up and everything.

Smells the same as a citronella candle. HTH. Don't use too much as it can be overpowering.

I used the essential oil and found it worked brilliantly. I put it on a broom (clean of course) and brushed it over all the cornices. No spiders for months.

Apparently if you grow lemon grass it can help reduce mozzies, haven't tried that one yet though.

I think the oil is derrived from the rind of the lemon peal (what the flesh is attached to). So I gather from something I've read, that one could use the actual underside of the lemon peal instead of the essential oil

Its funny that this thread should pop up today, as I did end up brushing the lemon oil on my cornices etc and it has worked well for me, I have had no spiders or webs inside for almost a year now, I was only thinking today that I should go around and do it again.

I was just watching a repeat of Lush House today where she just rubbed a lemon peel over pantyhose, put them on a broom and swept away the webs- she said that was enough to repel the spiders. It didn't seem like much, so the lemon must be pretty strong, or spiders must have good smell or something!

I HATE spiders, so I am sooooo doing this.

Did people just use undiluted lemon oil? Could I mix some with a bit of water to make a spray, or should I just rub a bit of oil only everywhere?
I MUST get rid of these filthy things, and it's so hard not to have zillions out here in farm town.
