Unhappy Why do they cry when they see you at pickup time?

    Hi all,

My DS is almost 1 and started long day care this week. He's a very social baby, and loves people and children. His carers have told me he's really good with other children and enjoys playing with them.
The only thing in the last week is that when DH or I go pick him up at abt 5pm (I drop him off at 7am), he can be happily playing and when he sees us, he starts to cry and reaches out for us to pick him up.
I don;t think it's because he's unhappy there, he adapts anywhere.
Do you think he cries cos he's us and remembers mummy and daddy or he's missed us? I hope it's not cos he's upset with us we left him there.

    any feedback will really help..
    thanks heaps

Honey, I doubt its because he's feeling abandoned - more likely he is just so happy that he's seeing his much loved parents and its the only way he can express himself at this age.

I agree with Arimeh. My DS2 doesn't go to daycare, but if I have been away (even just to the shops) he will cry and reach out to me as soon as he sees me. It's nice to feel loved

They want to give you the impression they have been crying the entire time you have been gone, when actually they have had a ball....

I totally agree with mel. DD did this when she was younger when I'd pick her up from daycare, exactly as you describe it. It's just him expressing how much he loves you & DH

DD did it for quite a while, I cant remember how long exactly but I do remember it going on for months. She did eventually stop doing it as she got older & now runs to me with a massive smile calling "mummeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" hehe

I could almost guarantee that he doesn't feel abandoned, I bet he's having the time of his life with all those little friends & all those activities all day long!

hehe i read in their activity book that he and this other little girl play together a lot and smile at each other heaps.. hehe.. ithink he's got a girlfriend already. (this morning when i dropped him off, they were making googly eyes at each other)

lol.. lulu.. that's so funny.. will probably be true when he figures out he can do that! (if he hasn't already!)

I'm not sure, but both of my girls do/did it too! Even though they both love going to FDC and have a ball whenever they are there! As they get older, it turns into cranky toddler misbehaviour when it's home time .
