i am new to this section and new to TTC, despite already having an almost two year old this will be the first time i have actually tried to fall pregnant...
my question is in regards to ovulation pain. i have ALWAYS experienced ovulation pain, however now that i am reading up on conception i have learnt that the egg only has a very short lifespan of 12-24 hours in which is my window of opportunity to conceive. i understand sperm can last for several days so its best to try and get the sperm ready to go BEFORE ovulation occurs, however i am wondering in regards to ovulation pain (mine usually lasts around one and a half days) - does ovulation pain occur DURING ovulation or does ovulation pain occur BEFORE ovulation? and since the egg is only viable for 12-24 hours, i am wondering why i experience pain for sometimes two days..... which has got me thinking (and hoping) that maybe ovulation pain happens just prior to ovulation..?
hope someone can shed some light? thanks for reading.
Hi Emma, like you, I've always had pretty strong ovulation pain, even to the extent that I know what side I ovulate from each month. I'm pretty sure that when I experience the pain it is when I am actually releasing an egg as it always coincides perfectly with my temp increase and other fertility signs. Apparently this isn't always the case though, and some woman ovulate just before or just after they experience the pain. To play it safe you can make sure you just start DTD from about 4 days before you are due to feel the ovulation pain. To do this you might need to chart your cycle for a while to learn more about your cycle. Of course, if you are very regular then you may already know exactly when you are going to feel the pain.
I hope that my rambling made some sense and helped a little. I wish you all the best on your TTC journey
thank you.... yes i absolutely know which side i am ovulating on each month, and in fact when i was younger the pain was quite bad and was almost mistaken for appendicitis....
with my last pregnancy i can remember having ovulation pain during the day and having a warm bath to relieve it, and we ended up DTD that night and hey presto, 9 months later a baby...
this month we DTD one day after the pain, so maybe i missed the boat a little.... anyways next time i will try and time it right... i might have to get one of those thermometer thingi's to do my temp.
