We have been TT Tori for a good couple of months now and she has the weeing down pat, she knows when she needs to go and takes herself off to the toilet by herself. We are however having horrible trouble TT her for poo. She knows when she needs to go so asks for a nappy on, and if we try and get her to go on the toilet or the potty she gets hysterical and then holds onto her poo for another couple of days, which creates a whole new set of problems.
When she goes to poo, she will only go in her bedroom- she wont go in any other room of the house.
She also has toddler diarrhoea, so she has never done a formed poo- every poos is soft. She only goes once every 1-2 days.
Any ideas how we can encourage her to poo on the toilet/potty or should we just let her go for a while as she is only two and a half?
Hun I have no other advice, except just be patient. I have two little boys who have been through exactly the same thing and all we could do was wait until they were ready. My little boy who has just turned 3 has finally accepted that the toilet is for poos and just pops himself on when he needs too. We never forced him because we knew he wasnt ready and it 'freaked' him out. Last week he was crying that he wanted a nappy on and was very close to going, so I said, how about we hop on the toilet and he said OK. Since then, weve had no troubles
Good luck with everything. Just keep offering her the toilet and one day she will suprise you.
My friend had a similar problem. She sat her kid on the toilet (with the nappy still on) until he associated poos with the toilet. Then she'd make him put the poo into the toilet afterwards and soon he realised how annoying and messy it was, so started just pooing on the loo.
If your daughters poos are always soft then perhaps change her diet a little - poos should be firmish, not sloppy etc. (at least that's what I've been told!).
All my boys had issues with pooing on the toilet.. I found they would poo around a similar time each day so we would go sit in the bathroom.. They woukd sit on the toilet and we would talk about how our tummies feel just before we needed to poop.. and basically we talked about gross things lol. How the body works ect ect
Eventually they just got it.. They did one poo on the toilet and went oooooo cus we made a big gross deal out of how it splashed in the water and all that.. Of course they wanted to do it again
Also we would tip thier poo from thier nappies or jocks into the toilet and joke around about the noise it made.. Gross yes but it helped them relax about it..
I think that if you stress about it, kids can pick up on that. The girls have given some great suggestions here; try to lighten up the whole experience so she doesn't get tense and stressed about it, and be patient. If she's been getting very upset, maybe drop the issue for a few days or more and then start gently with some of the ideas put foreward. Good luck!
