Going to Yamba, NSW....what's can I do to keep me entertained?
I'm off to Yamba from Thursday to Monday, with DP and his parents. The boys will be fishing alot of the time (the trip is to aid DP's dad in his brain tumour removal recovery), which means I'll be spending quite a bit of time with DP's mother. She is a lovely lady, but is one of those people you only like in small doses, so it's going to be a challenge!
What's there to do? I know there are beautiful beaches and we're staying in the holiday park overlooking the water, and cinemas, but are there any particular sights to be seen in or around the town? Any restaurant/shopping reccommendations?? The kids won't be with us, so adult friendly is all I'm asking.
We spent a few days there a couple of years ago even though we had never heard of the place and really loved it. The went for walks over the rocks and sat on them for ages just looking out to sea. Take a hat and a book and just sit, it was very relaxing.
There are plenty of walks to do around the beach area.
No idea what you can do for entertainment but I just wanted to say I'm really envious. We used to go there every easter when I was a child and I loved it - it's a gorgeous town.
I stayed there for a night a few years ago, but didn't have a chance to do much. Just wander the street & sticky beak
Its a gorgeous town. Relax & enjoy.
My great-grandmother, and Grandmother both live in Illuka, which is a short ferry ride across the inlet to Yamba, and honestly, it's a kinda boring place. BUT, there is great (!) shopping, little cafe's, awesome ice cream place, beach is beautiful. The cinemas are a bit disappointing.
I agree with Rivlas, just take a banana lounge, a big wide brimmed hat, a sarong and a book and just chill out in the sun.
Have fun gorgeous!!!
I'm already looking forward to it, I will have to go and invest in a good book and then run and dash and find a nice spot for myself Thanks so much guys, it should be fun...hopefully the boys catch a nice feed of beautiful fresh fish to enjoy too!
I lived only 5 mins from Yamba in a little village called Palmers Island up until we moved to Brisbane in August 07.
Yamba's beaches are lovley, not usually very busy at all (except during holiday times). If you take yourself a good book and comfy chair you probably wont want to venture much futher then the beach. There are cinema's but like someone else said they are a little disappointing but for $7 you can't really expect too much i suppose!!! Last time we went there was only 4 other people in the cinema.
Take a drive over to Maclean it's another lovely little country town ...nice little cafes and shops along the main street. My folks live in Maclean so i know that area really well. Also a drive out to Brooms Head is well worth it, the beach is awesome and it really is peaceful....a great spot to unwind and relax the day away!
