Does anyone know anything about or had any success with foreign currency trading?

My MIL who is a single mum DH's younger brother (he just turned 17 & lives at home with her) has recently lost her job, the company not being able to keep her after she finished her probation time due to the economy, Has decided that she is going to put all her savings( $2500) into a foreign currency account and start trading online. She is currently doing a course online and is going to attend a 2 day seminar later this month. With the online training she was given $10K in a simulated platform and lost money.

Has anyone or does anyone currently dabble in foreign currency trading? I have had a look online and find myself a little confused with the whole thing??

My MIL is 50yrs old and the only form of income she is getting is the doll and maintenence from my FIL for her other son. She has a morgage to pay and of course everyday bills and has made a few comments that she has decided that she is not returning to the workplace but is instead going to concentrate on foreign currency trading....(and reading tarot cards). She believes that this is an easy way to make money and I'm starting to become really concerned that she could get herself into serious financial difficulty.

If there is anyone out there that has any input on this topic I would greatly appreciate it because I'm finding myself a little out of my league and if it something that is actually feasable then I can stop stressing. Thanks in advance
