Need some advice please.

Hi everyone,

My 11 month old son has a 'tummy bug' that is apparently going around his daycare.
He is also teething and grumpy!!

His diarrohea is awful but my real concern is that he is vomiting all of his formula up within minutes of finishing a bottle.
He is off his food altogether apart from a little yoghurt in the morning, however his appetite has been poor prior to this bug because of the teething.
He doesn't look dehydrated and hasn't been stressed or too upset but I'm concerned that he is not getting enough nutritionally. I'm giving him small amounts of water which he is drinking. I'm also giving him regular Panadol which helps when he keeps it down.
He has been sleeping his usual 12 hours overnight whithout any problems but he is definately not himself.

He is going to the Doctors tomorrow but is there anything I could be doing now for him that might keep him hydrated? Should I try giving him half strength formula feeds?

Well if it were me I would take Annabelle to the docs Its best to be safe then sorry. Even if they tell you he's fine, its best to be told that, then leave something serious go on

I would also keep him out of daycare if possible for a little while, just so he can clear up properly. Instead of being hit with it again.

If he's vomiting his milk than I would stop the formula until you see the dr tomorrow. Generally when babies have gastro it's best to stop forumla and food all together until they are better, unless they are breastfed. Giving him regular drinks of water is a must. I was surprised when Emily had vomiting about a month or so ago, she slept all night without a bottle before bed.
I'm not sure about the half strength formula, haven't done it before so can't give advice on that one.
Hopefully you have a morning app with the dr tomorrow. If not, ring up and demand one

ETA: if you do decide to take him to the dr, go to ED at the Base, don't take him to the 24 hour. They'll only give you a wrong diagnosis or the wrong medication and you'll need to take him to your regular gp anyway.

He is definately not going to daycare for the next few days as I don't want him to spread it around to anyone else.

He is definately going to the Doctors and this Doctor I really like. He is really helpful and listens to all my silly little worries.

I will stop feeding him Formula until I see the doctor and continue with the water. He doesn't seem to vomit up the water at all, just the formula.

Don’t worry hun you are doing a great job. I would suggest that you stop the formula, and just give small amounts of water often. Your little man can manage quite well without food for a few days but he needs his fluids.

Thanks for that Alan. I won't give him anymore formula for now. He doesn't mind the water (he drinks a lot of water anyway when he is well). It's great that he seems to keep the water down although I only offer him fairly small amounts but often.
I'm relieved to know that he will cope ok without the food and formula. It's just so hard to see him unwell.

Thanks for all the great advice. Sometimes you just need a little assurance that you are doing ok.

you can get hyrolyte or pedialyte drinks as well if you want to, your dr will be able to help you best though. good luck.
