DD#1 is 4. Has done pre-entry kindy and now in first term of full time kindy. First few weeks were absolutely fantastic - thought we were so lucky. In the past week, something has snapped in her head and now everytime she needs to be left with a teacher (does extra activities as well) she screams and grabs my leg yelling don't go mummy, no mummy
Oh hugs hun. I know i'll be in the exact position when my DS goes to school.
I havent been there yet but wanted to offer hugs. Maybe DD needs some more attention after school... Maybe more excitement when you pick her up so she remembers how fun it is when mum comes to pick her up??? Not sure.
Have you tried to find out if something has happened to make her not want to stay??
No Help i know... Sorry... Wish i could offer more help... HUgs
Aww, sorry mate! How sad. Can you chat to the staff and find out if something has happened? Perhaps she got a little scare or had an altercation with another kid?
You poor things. I totally sympathise. My DS1 is 4 and when he started 3 year old kinder last year he would scream and cry when I went to drop him off, it was heartbreaking. The teacher would take him with her and talk to and distract him for a few minutes after I'd left and he'd calm down and enjoy the rest of the session. This went on for a few weeks and then he stopped doing it. Then there was a change over of teachers towards the end of the second term and he went completely backwards again. Once his teacher returned he was still hysterical and one time he threw up on himself in the car at the carpark because he was so upset . It nearly killed me, I always walked back to my car for a cry after I dropped him off. The only reason I kept persevering was because he calmed down after I left and enjoyed himself. Once he settled in with his teacher again he was back to his happy self.
Could it just be that your DD is still adjusting? Maybe she was OK for the first few weeks, but then the reality hit that she would be seperated from you every time she went? Maybe she associates this with other teachers? Does she like her kindy teacher? Does she calm down after you leave? Could she have had something happen that frightened her?
Sorry I don't really have any advice, just hugs and lots of sympathy. I know only too well how heartbreaking it is. The only thing that worked for us was having a teacher who was willing to persevere with him and for me to be consistant in dropping him off, saying "Good-bye, I'll see you after the story" and then just leaving, even if he was trying to grab my legs (it was NOT easy, I can tell you).
I hope this is a phase that passes really soon for you .
I am teaching Kindergarten this year (but its the first year of school in NSW not preschool) and I am finding my class more tired and wanting mummy now than at the start of the year. i think the novelty is wearing off and thay are tired, remember its a long and busy day for them and they are only little. My class are mostly 5 (one has just turned 6) and they are wrecked so I can only imagine what a 4 yr old is feeling.
I would have a chat to the teacher and try to make your get away very quick not drawn out as this upsets them more. Hopefully its just a phase, its very hard as the mummy though isn't it?
