how many "night nappies" needed for a newborn, plus other newbie questions.
I read that babies need more absorbent nappies for night time use, as they stay on for longer.
Is that true even of very young babies? I assumed that if I'm getting up a few times in the night to feed, I'll also need to change her nappy each time too. Do I need a lot of special "night time" nappies?
How often do you change your baby's nappy at night?
I'm so confused about nappies!
I've gotten (or got on order):
- 15 small prefolds (borrowed from my sister) plus a couple of covers for them. I'm not sure how well these will actually work.
- 6 bumgenius 3.0 "one size fits all" (these seem very easy to work)
- 4 baby beehinds bamboo "one size fits all" (maybe use mostly these at night, since the bamboo is apparently more absorbent)
- 2 baby beehinds minky-magic-alls small size. (these seem very very easy to work, but I don't want a load of them because baby will just outgrow them, meaning more expense)
I am hoping that with this I'll manage, at least until I have figured out whether the bumgenius or the baby beehinds are good (or that neither of them are good), and bought more of those or similar to use as the baby grows out of the prefolds.
Many new newborns don't need night nappies because they are changed so often, what with night feeds etc. but if they are heavy wetters I would use the BBH and add an extra booster if they are weeing that much. Around the time that they don't wake as often or start to hold on and then do a huge wee is when you will need night nappies. Night nappies are very hard to get in smaller sizes.
I used baby beehinds bamboo with a wool soaker or longies/shorties for the first 4 months Now we have upsized but still go back to that sometimes and it works well
The prefolds and covers will work well if bub is waking frequently and if you need more just add a booster Much better than aio's for keeping runny poo inside.
I had some BBB's and they were too big for weeks. I started using them from about 5 weeks. Ruby sleeps through and they are great for her atm! We had leaks with magicalls so I am a bit off them.
I don't change a baby's bottom at night unless they have poohed - if they were sleeping through they wouldn't be changed. I find it helps them get into a nighttime routine better.
